Chapter #9

Gloria wants to tell Willow the Truth.

by: Fitzroy Clement Author IconMail Icon
Gloria was having a mini panic attack from this avalanche of weirdness. She had to get out of here! Still holding onto the gemstone, she began to walk hurriedly towards the door to her own home, if she even lived there now, when suddenly a very solid, gut feeling was telling her that she didn't in fact live there anymore. A strange vision, a newfound memory from her recent past was telling Gloria that she lived with Bill and Tammy...Bill and Tom...Bill and Tammy now. This memory was telling her that she was temporarily living in their guest bedroom because she had just gotten divorced from her husband...a Senator! He had cheated on her multiple times, dumped her, and screwed her over in the divorce proceedings. He had done a good job at covering this up, and even though Gloria had raised hell about it in the media, not enough people believed her to make it a political issue.

As Gloria stood there, paralyzed by this new information, indecisive on what to do now, Willow spoke up.

“Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about the divorce, Mrs. V” said Willow, sounding genuinely hurt for Gloria. “Is your mom still OK?”

“She's...”

Gloria's new memories started filling in. Apparently Ariadne was still alive and active.

“She's fine.”

Bill noticed the shocked look in Gloria's eyes. He got up from Willow's little demonstration of her new characters.

“I think I need to help Gloria calm down. Could you just give me a couple of minutes, Willow?”

Willow looked concerned, but she shook her head. “Sure”.

Bill and Gloria began to walk upstairs to the guest room, when Tammy told her daughter that she wanted to make sure that everything was OK and ran upstairs herself.

Inside Gloria's room, Gloria was explaining to Bill the memory she just had.

“THAT SON OF A BITCH!” screamed Gloria. “HOW DARE HE CHEAT ON ME!?”

“Gloria, you literally just found out who this guy was. You have no actual attachment to him. This reality isn't our reality” observed Bill.

“It's the principle of the thing! Nobody cheats on me and gets away with it! It's a rule!”

“Oh brother” said Bill quietly as he rolled his eyes at Gloria.

Tammy then entered the room.

“What are you screaming about now, Gloria?” she asked with a touch of hostility.

“Apparently I have a husband now. An ex-husband. It's so weird. I remember being married to him and everything, and the asshole cheated on me!”

The Ahn'Ger Stone began glowing in her hand a little.

“I can't” said Gloria, starting to hyperventilate. “I can't live in this reality. As funny as it is seeing what you've both turned into, I just can't. It's too painful.”

Bill and Tammy stared at one another.

“What about Willow?” asked Bill.

“What about her!?” asked Gloria, as if that were a stupid question.

“Guys, didn't you see how happy she looked?” Bill continued. “I mean...I know that she's not real-real, but she looked so happy telling us about her show.”

“I'm not happy!” loudly whispered Gloria. “I just got robbed of forty years of my life! And to add insult to injury, I've been humiliated by some ratfaced asshole!”

“I don't want to break Willow's heart. This is like her dream” said Bill, recalling new memories. “Ever since she was a little girl, she's had apparently been obsessed with this.”

“Earth to Bill: She's not really your daughter!” said Gloria, looking at Bill like he was crazy. “This isn't reality. We're still just teenagers!”

“But maybe this reality IS real, just an alternate version of our reality” ruminated Bill, now lost in his own concerns.

“Yeah! That! Listen to Bill” said Tammy.

“Oh stop it, Tom! Stop acting like you're so happy being here!”

“I am!”

“You're actually happy being a middle aged woman?!”

“Yes! I've got a family. Bill and Willow love me and I love them back. I never realized it, but that's all I've ever really wanted, a family to call my own.”

Gloria rolled her eyes and moved her fingers around in a derogatory motion.

“This is the world's smallest violin playing for you”

“Shut up Gloria!”

“No, YOU shut up Tom! I wish...” said Gloria absentmindedly, in a state of anger and panic.

Option 1: Gloria wishes that they were all teenagers again. The wish is granted, and the gemstone transports them all back to 2018...including Willow, who is now also eighteen again.

Option 2: Before Gloria can make a wish, Willow knocks on the door and wants to know if everything is OK. Bill, Gloria, and Tammy stumble over each other trying to come up with a convincing lie.
