Holidays. Once they were few and far between, simply cultural events to mark the passing of time, for religions to celebrate or for nations or individuals to give thanks for what they may have as a whole or as individuals. Holidays that actually meant something. But now, it seems, they'nothing more than an excuse to fuel economies and propel forward capitalist over-consumption of resources and material goods.
And let's not forget the endless parade of recently created minor holidays, and especially the ones that seem to have been made up for no reason than a handful of influential individuals wanting to celebrate math or even the creation of the doughnut.
Regardless of their origin or importance, holidays were occurring so often that there seemed to be one almost every other week, and you always, somehow, found yourself caught up in the. in some shape or form.
But little did anyone on Earth know that the barrier between the reality that the human race knew and understood, and the reality of pure magic had grown thin over the last two decades, and now, on the eve of one of these holidays, one was about to fall.
You see, the realm of magic is chaotic, ever-changing, and ultimately directionless, as the reality in which magic resides contains nothing but magic itself. There are no individuals there to shape it, give it purpose or meaning, no life other than the instinctual intelligence of magic itself. That is why, one evening as a barrier fell soundlessly and magic slipped invisibly into the human realm, it was curious as to it's new surroundings. And perhaps it was telepathic, perhaps it was empathic, but the first thing that Magic stumbled onto was a overly enthusiastic individual walking down the street, talking loudly and passionately into her phone about her favorite day of the year.
