Awakening to a New Home

Celica began to stir. With a small groan, her eyes slowly fluttered open. An unfamiliar ceiling greeted her under a dim light. She also felt something quite comfortably soft both under and over her.

What… happened…

Suddenly, memories rushed to the front of her mind. Her eyes widened in surprised, and she quickly shot up to a sitting position.

“The Earth Mother! She… ah!”

Celica quickly brought a hand to her throat, startled by the squeaking of her voice.

My voice, what happened to… wait…

She was now recalling the screams that preceded her blacking out.

It sounded the same, she realized, so it wasn’t a nightmare. The Earth Mother truly… shrunk me.

A sense of disbelief came back to her, as if part of her was still in doubt.

I mustn’t dwell on that… not yet, Celica shook her head, not wanting to relieve just how colossal the Earth Mother’s face alone had looked now.

In any case… where am I now?

Calling forth her magic, she summoned a small fireball, which floated up to hover overhead. Finally, able to properly see, Celica discovered she was in some kind of small room, as well as lying on top of a bed. The room was small, only having enough space for the bed itself. To her right she saw what looked to be a small ledge, slightly raised above the bed, housing a single unlit candle atop on the near side of her. On the opposite side she saw drawn pink-colored curtains. There was light on the other side, but she couldn’t see what exactly liked beyond, the curtains being thick enough for that.

This must be some kind of alcove, the princess realized.

It was clear the ledge was meant for whoever used the bed to place stuff atop.

So the rest of the bedchamber must lie beyond.

Though Celica still remained where she was, looking down at the bed now. It was quite large, enough for two people to use. One thing she quickly noted was how… opulent it was. Her blanket was made of silk, of pure white decorated with red frills at its edges, as well as the emblem of Zofia, golden in color, embroidered at its center. Looking behind her, she saw the pillow was the same. In fact, it wasn’t just those. The curtains for starters were also made of silk, but that wasn’t all.

She hadn’t ignored that she was clothed again, though now her circlet was absent. In any case, her current outfit, consistently mainly of just a nightgown and undergarments, was no less opulent. More silk, with gold trims on the hem of the skirt, the cuff of the sleeves, and the neckline. Once more the Zofian emblem decorating the front just above her chest, though much smaller in comparison.

This all must be fit for a royal… Celica thought a bit surprised, before then turning dismayed, which… I guess it is. For me… well, for a member of the royal family at least.

She recalled what the Earth Mother was saying before she… did it. About ensuring the survival of Zofia. That’s why she had hid the warp circle in such a way. For on the chance a member of the royal family was still alive, they could one day reach her… and thus the Earth Mother would have someone to put on the throne of her new, if much… much smaller Zofia.

Celica now glanced towards the drawn curtains. Feeling she had spent enough time on the bed, she proceeded to stand up. Though she did had socks over her feet, a pair of slippers awaited at the bottom of the bed nonetheless. Putting them on, she moved the curtains aside so she could walk out of the alcove, dismissing her fireball as she did. A more proper room greeted her on the other side, the actual bedchamber. Expectedly, it was no less opulent in every detail. The walls, furniture, even the carpets covering most of the stone floor. Truly a royal’s bedchamber. It was then that she finally spotted her circlet, placed on a bust atop a vanity. The princess was impressed by what she saw, though the actual reason was something else.

Was all this also shrunk by the Mother? Celica wondered. Wait…

It was now dawning on her.

This can’t possibly be the only room. Does this mean she actually shrunk an entire building? Or was it built this size to begin with?

She went pensive for a moment, but then shook her head.

I suppose I can get answers from the temple clerics. Since this has to be where the Mother placed them, as well as myself. They had to be the ones who clothed me and placed me on the bed.

She quickly spotted the door, which likely led to the rest of this building. She could easily go out and search for someone. On the other hand, that wasn’t the only exit. As it had been noticed previously, the room was well-lit. The source of the light, however, was actually sunlight, seeping in from an open doorway which seemed to lead to some kind of balcony. Curtains were placed on the sides, but were not drawn, like the ones of the bed alcove were, thus allowing the light to come in through. Though certainly the balcony would be a dead-end, she could at least see the outside.

I suppose I could see first just where exactly am I now, Celica mused.
