You stood silently for a moment, thinking before a strange noise caught your attention. "Uh, does anyone else hear a sort of grinding noise?"
Toadstool looked confused for a second before a look of horror painted her face. "The pipe!"
You whirled around to see what she meant, but it was too late. The green pipe you had entered this world through sank back into the ground leaving nothing left but a pile of dirt.
You collapsed to the ground on your butt, shocked at what you just witnessed. "I-It's gone. My only way home..."
Everything that you had known and everything you left behind was gone in an instant.
Toadstool came up alongside and placed a comforting hand on your shoulder. "I'm so sorry, [Y/N]. It;s my fault that you came here and for that I take full responsibility. For what it's worth, living in the Mushroom Kingdom isn't a bad place to be. There's always something interesting going on, and another adventure to find. I'm sure that in time you'll be able to adjust."
The way she said it, how she implied that you were never going to go home cut you like a razor. You were going to have to cut all of your old ties and start a new life here. At least your knowledge of the Mario Bros. Games and cartoon would give you a leg up so you won't be starting completely from scratch, and you were in the company of a cute princess who's 100% on your side.
Yeah, maybe this could all work out for you in the end. You mean, the Mario Bros. did it, didn't they? If they can do it, so can you.
You slowly got to your feet and stood with your hands in your pockets, and looked over at the princess with eyebrows raised. :Well, I guess I'm going to be living here now. Can't say I know what that will mean yet but for right now I'm willing to try. The only thing is, now I've got no place to stay and nothing to do. I don't suppose you'll be willing to let me rent out a room in your castle, would you princess?"
