"Hey, uh, listen, maybe Molly and Sabrina and I could go down to the computer in the family room and do a computer search, and maybe get an idea of what happened," you say.
Okay, you tell yourself, you know what happened, sort of, generally. But not specifically. And you figure that if you look like you don't know what's going on, you might get along with the girls better if you act like you're trying to fix things. Sure, they're really not in a position to object, if you insist on things, but it would probably be better if everyone was voluntarily cooperative about things.
Picking Sabrina to help you do research made sense. She was the smartest person in your school. And taking Molly made sense because Sabrina probably wouldn't feel comfortable with just being with you. And Jessica would make sure Emma didn't unload on Anna again when you were gone.
Molly and Sabrina whisper together and nod, probably coming to the same conclusion. They don't look completely comfortable with things when they step into your cupped hands, but they're not freaking out either.
