Chapter #10

Laundry Day

    by: Frost Author IconMail Icon
“Oh, oh, dear!” Bernadetta squeaked, her eyes going wide as she realized that Dorothea was stripping off her robe. She covered her eyes with her hands. However, the image of her giant classmate in her underwear would be forever burned into her eyes.

Byleth, meanwhile, remained stoic, studying the situation and trying to figure out what was going on. However, no amount of guesswork prepared her to see Dorothea carelessly toss the robe onto the bed.

A large shadow loomed over the shrunken pair as the robe descended onto them. Bernadetta tried to flee. However, the expansive fabric covered nearly the entirety of the bed, easily covering the pair and keeping them trapped beneath the surprisingly heavy weight.

The robe bore down on them, making the pair lose all sense of direction as they tried to find each other in the maze of expensive fabric. From what they could tell, Dorothea invested heavily into the robe, making sure she slept in something absolutely comfortable.

The smell was unmistakably Dorothea, overwhelmingly floral mixed with hints of sweat and perfume in choice locations. However, the two managed to meet again as Byleth crawled her away under the robe while following the sounds of Bernadetta’s cries of panic.

“I got you,” the professor said, grabbing Bernadetta’s arm. “Whatever you do, don’t let go.”

Bernadetta whimpered. But from what Byleth recognized from the tone, it was an affirmative whine.

Hunched over, Byleth led the charge, deciding to move in a certain direction, knowing the end would eventually be in sight.

All the while, Dorothea was quickly getting dressed into her training gear. While her eventual transition into a dancer meant she had a reduced need for sword training, her professor heavily emphasized the importance of self defense, which she couldn’t agree more. Her position as a dancer was to motivate her fellow students. Her corpse, while most likely beautiful, wouldn’t be all that motivating.

After sword training, she planned to take a long bath, and then change and apply her makeup before heading to the monastery to take care of the rest of her duties for the day. She tied her hair up and looked at herself in a hand mirror before blowing herself a kiss.

Behind her, she noticed the robe discarded on her bed and remembered today was laundry day. “Right, better drop that off, too.”

Getting up, she walked over to her bed and reached under it, pulling out a sack she used to store the rest of her dirty clothes. She held it open with one hand before lazily scooping up the robe and dragging it into the laundry bag before slinging it over her shoulder.

This, for obvious reasons, spelled out chaos for the tiny duo. The ground began to shake as Dorothea bunched up the robe. The two quickly got disoriented and lost in the fabric again. They felt a sensation of free falling before hitting something. Thankfully, the robe had protected them.

The pair burrowed their way out from their cloth prison together, following slight traces of light, only to find themselves in a strange room with cloth walls all around them.

“Wh-where are we?” Bernadetta asked, looking around for any hints.

Byleth did the same, finding more stray articles of clothing under the cliff of sleepwear. It didn’t take long together to piece together their location. “Dorothea’s laundry bag.”

“H-her laundry!?” Bernie cried. “No, no no no, I can’t swim, Professor!”

“It’ll be fine,” she reassured, just stick close to me. “We’ll get out before we have to swim.”

Dorothea walked over to the next room, knocking at Petra’s door. The foreign exchange student quickly opened up, exiting out in her sleepwear of shorts and a thin shirt that barely covered her midriff. “Morning, Petra.”

“Good morning,” she said back, eying the sack across Dorothea’s shoulder. “I take it, it is my day to be doing the laundry?”

“Yup.” Dorothea handed her the bag. “Be gentle with my clothes. Edelgard was a bit stingy with the softening soap I like so much.”

“I will be trying,” the Brigid girl said, her face souring as she accepted the bag. “I mean, I will try.”

“Thank you so much,” Dorothea chirped. “I’ll see you later.”

“Be seeing you.”

It didn’t take long for Byleth and Bernadetta to realize things would only get worse from here. Petra wasted no time in dropping her own laundry into the sack, drowning the pair in her own pile of clothing. They were caught under what they could only guess was a sock as the heavy, stale scent of sweat washed over them.

As time went on, the pile of clothes only got heavier as Petra collected clothes from her fellow students. When she got to Bernadetta’s room, she collected the bag in front of the door, the usual routine that didn’t raise any alarms.

Byleth and Bernadetta, meanwhile, tried to climb their way to the top, finding it much more difficult to navigate than the robe itself. However, the looming threat of being drowned as Petra did the laundry became real as they caught the sounds of the river just outside the monastery getting louder.
