Today was a big day for me. I just got employed as a cook at McPiggy's. That's a burger joint where the kids' area employees wear farm animal suits.
Where are my manners? I haven't introduced myself. I'm Kevin, Kev for short.
My cell phone rang. I picked it up and answered it.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Kev! Congratulations on that new job!"
That was my boyfriend Mike. We met and middle school and fell in love. We didn't kiss each other until 10th grade. Crazy, right?
"Thanks," I said.
"So, we going to be moving in next month?" Mike added.
I still live at home, but Mike and I have been talking about moving in together someday. We even made plans to do it next month.
"Sure. We'd better look for a place, then," I said.
"Thanks for the heads up," Mike said. "Good luck!"
We both hung up and then I looked down at my 6'0" 220 pound body. Mike's kind of a skinny fellow and I'm a mixture of muscular and fat. I was still not dressed. I always wear cargo shorts with a belt and no shirt to bed. I've got thick hair on my arms, but I don't have much for chest hair, just a happy trail below the belly button. If I was going to be at work on time, I had to get ready.
"Open up or you're going to be late!" came a small boy's voice from behind my bedroom door.
It was my little brother, Tristan. He's 7 and I'm 19. I didn't want him coming into my room if I wasn't dressed because when I wear cargo shorts with a belt and no shirt around him, he likes to give me belly rubs like I'm a dog. He even treats me like one. Last Christmas, he got me a dog collar as a joke. With him around, I wish I'd moved out earlier. He can be an annoying little pest.
I grabbed my clothes, had a quick shower, got dressed, ate breakfast, and took off for work.
It was a fine day at work. A patty flipping here, a fryer working there, and when I had my lunch break, Mike had come to grab lunch himself. We sat down at the same table and split fries.
"Good news," Mike said. "I know we were talking about moving out next month, but I heard that apartment prices will be rising next month. So, why won't we look for an apartment after you get off work today?"
What do I say?
