A lab experiment to project a consciousness into the past, and record the experiences goes wrong. It was only meant to be an observation trip, and strictly without intervention to keep the time streams uncorrupted, but something went very wrong.

The traveller arrived, mortified to find his education and experience were irrelevant, as he'd arrived in the body of a maid.

The traveller woke in entirely the wrong body, and time period isolated and lost in the past.
