Dr. Jack Rayner looked to his wife in the chair opposite. Jill Raynor was employed as his assistant on the same project. Not mere nepotism, they'd met on the same temporal mechanics course. Though he was the more gifted student, and excelled. He took the opportunity to reward her loyalty and friendship that blossomed into marriage with this shared credit.
It was a chance for Jill to gain experience of temporal travel. The one that'd allow her to complete her own doctorate, and the similar level of advancement. As the lab technician fussed over the crown of electrodes that surrounded her head, he surveyed the arrangement from his transfer couch. Happy that all the connections looked solid.
Naturally, he'd double-checked his own connections. Tony was finally satisfied they were right too, and stepped back. Turning his head, Jack nodded to his lead assistant: Sally Stevens as she stood by the projector controls.
It was one of the first time transports with two simultaneous participants. So he was eager to see the readings when he returned and analyse them himself.

Getting a thumbs up, from both Jack and Jill, Sally Stevens turned her back on them. Giving her control panel one final survey before she plunged the pair into the past.
It was an imprecise science. But one Jack hoped to improve, both the accuracy and the level of control.
He saw Jill spring rigid, as the same sensations gripped him. His vision shrank to nothing, as the lab receded from sight. Mind still whirling, he felt thrown forward. Ejected from the void, as he was thrust towards a tiny speck of light. So small he would surely miss. It grew and grew until it was unavoidable.
With a jerk, he was in his host body. Looking around he hoped to see Jill, and offer her some comfort and familiarity.
