Chapter #9

Two Troublemakers to the Team

    by: Ponymon Author IconMail Icon
You couldn’t believe what Mawile was suggesting. She actually wanted you to catch this duo of troublemakers! Ever since you had known the three of them, you understood that the three of them were not on friendly terms. Mawile especially did not like either of them. You looked at your partner inquisitively.

“You really want me to catch these two?” You gestured to the unconscious electric types. “I thought you didn’t like them.”

Mawile!” She replied sharply. It was pretty obvious what that meant.

“Then why do you want me to catch them? I figured you’d want to tie them up or something instead.”

Wile Mawile.”

Most of the time you were pretty good at understanding what Mawile said despite the language barrier, but you were stumped right now. You could tell, at least, that she was serious about this. You weren’t against the idea, you did plan on expanding your team beyond just Mawile, as strong as she was. But you thought they’d be some Pokémon you found out in the while, not the other troublemakers from your town after they tried to kidnap you!

You sighed heavily and absentmindedly felt the belt around your waist where you kept Mawile’s pokeball. Conveniently, you could feel three spare pokeballs. The emotion in your gut was either excitement or dread. You admittedly had a soft spot for the troublemakers, even though you knew what they were really like and had just subjected you to a humiliating situation. That made you hesitate a little. But, considering they were willing to fight Mawile of all Pokémon to try and get you back, you decided to catch them after all. Even if you left them alone, they’d probably just come after you later.

“Alright Mawile, I think you’re right.” A smile grew on your face. “Guess we should take them along. You can help keep them out of trouble.”

Mawile just mumbled her name approvingly. Turns out, she had the same thought process of you. Though she was more pleased with the idea of being able to keep those two in line rather than having new friends.

Standing in Mawile’s hands, you carefully aimed your throw as you got ready to catch Minun first. This was the first time you had thrown a pokeball, Mawile had willing let herself get tapped in the head by hers. You never imagined you’d be doing this from within the same Pokémon’s hands, but here you were. You really hoped you didn’t somehow miss. The pokeball was especially small, considering your size. If you missed, you probably wouldn’t be able to find it again.

Thankfully you didn’t have any problem hitting the giant electric type. Surprisingly, the ball only shook once before the light shut off! You didn’t know if that meant Minun didn’t mind getting caught by you, or if Mawile had just beaten them that thoroughly. You didn’t really mind either way, you just caught your second Pokémon! Encouraged by the feeling of excitement, you immediately tried to get Plusle in a ball as well. Hers shook… a lot more than once. It probably shook at least a dozen times by your estimate. Thankfully she was still caught successfully, but you made a note to keep an eye on Plusle just in case.

Maw!” Your steel type eagerly held her fist next to you, which you happily returned the fist bump.

“Guess we got some new partners huh Mawile?” You were eager to get the two of them out of their pokeballs. Better to double check on them to make sure Mawile didn’t hurt them to much and get their initial reactions out of the way. You fully expected to hear a lot of protest, but that’s what they get for stealing you and dropping you. There was only one problem…

“Oh, they didn’t go back to my size.” You realized as you stared at the pokeballs on the ground. They had gone back to the size of a regular pokeball, as in, bigger than you. You scratched your head in confusion and worry. They’d be able to shrink more, right? “Hey, uh, Mawile. Would you pick one of those up for me?”

Mawile did as you asked and grabbed Minun’s pokeball from the ground. It was weird to hold a pokeball herself, she mused. Having the same thought process as you, she moved the ball so that the button that opened it was directly in front of you. She mumbled her name encouragingly.

“Alright, so if I press the button in the center, I think it should-” You flinched as soon as you touched the center button, which caused the ball to shrink in size just like you hoped. Noises of shock and concern slipped out of you as you clumsily tried to catch the falling object. Eventually you’re able to safely catch it and breathe a sigh of relief. Maybe it’d be easier to let Mawile handle this and keep them in your bag…

Mawile watched casually as Plusle and Minun’s shapes took form from the light coming out of their pokeballs. The two wouldn’t be able to make any trouble now that you were their trainer. So she could relax now and enjoy seeing their reaction to learning they got caught. And if they DID start trying to make trouble, it was her job as a senior member of the team to help them behave.

Thankfully, the Plusle and Minun didn’t come out as collapsed unconscious wrecks. They weren’t their usual energetic selves, but they weren’t seriously hurt at least. However, they were rubbing at their temples irritably with eyes closed. Either they were still feeling some pain, or the new sensation of their pokeballs was messing with them.

Ugh… what happened?

That steel freak happened. I’m sore all over!

Steel freak huh?” Mawile made her presence known.

Plusle and Minu’s eyes were open in an instant, gasps escaping them both. The two of them seemed ready to run off right then, but they stopped when they noticed you standing in Mawile’s hand. You were wide open, a super easy target to try to quickly snatch away. That didn’t make sense considering what they just went through.

Why do you have your trainer out like that? Do you really think we’re dumb enough to try and grab him from you right now?

He’s not just my trainer anymore.” Mawile noted vaguely.

Wh-what do you mean?” Minun asked cautiously.

Gently depositing you on her shoulder, Mawile dropped her casual stance and took a more aggressive one. Your two new Pokémon tensed suspiciously, but held their ground. An amused, mischievous gleam shined in Mawile’s eyes. Plusle and Minun really didn’t like that look, Mawile was menacing!

You two runts…” Before either of them could react, Mawile’s hands shot out, grabbed one of theirs and pulled them closer for a crushing handshake! “Are a part of the team now.” Mawile’s statement was exciting and friendly, but the two troublemakers knew that the excitement wasn’t because the two of them were going to be her teammates.

What!?

~

Not understanding any of what was just said, you only had one thing on your mind: how were Plusle and Minun going to react to the fact that you were their trainer?
