Let's start by determining when this galactic adventure takes place, beginning with the larger eras.
The Age of Republic/Clone Wars (32BBY to 19BBY)
In 32BBY the Old Republic has become less effective than the grand golden years of the High Republic, with numerous corruption from the heart of the Galactic Senate to the further reaches of the Outer Rim as blockades and scheming dominates. Only a young boy known to some as one who could bring balance to the Force seems to aid the Jedi Order in their desire to serve the Republic, but even they are not deemed to be enough. By 22BBY, conflict between the Clone armies of the Republic and the Droids of the Separatist Alliance has caused immense destruction across the galaxy, with the role of Jedi as peacekeepers ever more pressing as they face Bounty Hunters and even the return of the fearsome Sith. Thousands of worlds feel the costs, no matter their alliance. After three years of war only the sudden and violent removal of the Jedi by Clone Troopers, once their allies, appears to bring the war to its end, leading to the rise of the all powerful Galactic Empire.

The Age of Rebellion/Galactic Civil War (19BBY to 5ABY)
With the Clone Wars completed the Empire tightens its grip on the galaxy, stamping down on disorder and rebellion. Those surviving Jedi face the wrath of the Inquisitors and worse, the power of a Sith Apprentice in dark visor. But more resourceful and determined Rebel cells slowly band together, led by those who are as deadly with their words as they are with a blaster. Even so the Imperials forge new and increasingly dangerous weapons of power and fear in their never-ending need to rule, controlled from within by the power of the Sith as they enlist cold officers, unflinching troopers and resourceful Bounty Hunters. All the while the Outer Rim thrives on slavery and contraband via Syndicates and Cartels. But slowly and surely, victories against the Empire by the Rebel Alliance mount up, eventually aided by the return of the Jedi. Final victories above Endor and Jakku see the Empire seemingly destroyed by the fledging New Republic...

The Age of Resistance/Rise of the First Order (5ABY to 35ABY)
The destruction of the second Death Star and the Emperor might make many assume the worst is over, but corruption and dark secrets are never too far from reach. Over the next few years the New Republic strives to restore order in more enlightened ways, but talk of Imperial remnants and the reach of criminals in the Outer Rim makes this difficult. Bounty Hunters know to take jobs from those who have the power, but even this can be difficult. And tragically the same mistakes as within the Old Republic starts to know, giving new blood of the Empire's legacy time to seek alliances from the Unknown Regions. By 34ABY the First Order has emerged, even more bloodthirsty and seemingly unstoppable. But once again a Jedi takes her first steps to restoring the Order and a Resistance led by former Rebels and their descendants dismantle both the Order and the threat of a restored Sith Empire. Perhaps at last the Galaxy might finally know peace.
