This choice: Her mother (a surprise visit) • Go Back...Chapter #6Sapping Mother by: Ëtalfni Judy wandered down the street, all while staring at the beautiful ring on her fingers. It was hard to take her eyes off of it now that she had accepted it was hers. It felt good. She felt good, for some reason. Little did she know that was because as she walked through the city, the ring's aura was sapping the energy from everyone she was passing. Though it wasn't enough for any size changes to occur, it did give Judy a huge burst in energy which greatly improved her mood. Helped by her having the rest of the day off.
Bogo had told her to take a break after a very successful morning with a big case, Bogo had instructed Judy to take some R&R. Despite her protests, Judy had eventually agreed if only to use the opportunity to shop for Nick's gift for Valentine's Day. Looking down at the ring again, Judy wasn't quite sure how it was supposed to solve her original problem. Maybe she was supposed to offer it to Nick, perhaps? Though that didn't seem right either.
As Judy returned to her apartment, unsure of what to do with the rest of her day, she was met by a complete and unexpected surprise.
"Judy!" her mother said as she hugged her as soon as she opened the door.
Judy immediately caught the full force of her mother in an embrace. Bonnie Hopps had always been a few inches taller than Judy and a whole lot heavier given her extra weight. It was enough to distract Judy a bit from her thoughts as she adjusted to the new problem. Or more specifically...
"What are you doing here, mom?"
"Oh, I just figured it's been a while and your friend Nick mentioned that you had half a day over texts so I came to visit! It's been forever since we hung out and I rarely get a chance to visit the city. So, why not?"
Judy should have suspected Nick had something to do with this, though there was no complaining now as she had to put on a smile.
"Well," Judy continued. "I don't have anything planned if you were expecting something. And I did kind of want to relax for my day off."
"That's okay! We don't have to do anything in particular, I just was hoping to spend some time with you. We can do whatever you'd like, even if it's just lounging in your apartment."
"We don't have to do that...But maybe we can just go shopping at the mall or something?"
"That would be wonderful," said Bonnie as she took a step and lost her balance. "Ooh, I seem to be getting a little lightheaded."
"Are you okay? We don't have to go anywhere if you'd rather stay home...."
"Nonsense, I came all this way and I'm going to spend some personal time with my daughter."
Judy should have guessed that her mother would be too stubborn to ever agree to such an offer, something Judy had inherited from her. But what Judy didn't know is that her mother's sudden discomfort had more to do with the ring Judy was wearing than her mother's head. Bit by bit, the ring was absorbing Bonnie's energy, making her feel like she had just spent a hard day's work in the field. She wasn't tired, per say, it just felt like something was draining her, for lack of a better word. Both of them were unaware that the more time Bonnie spent around Judy, the more would be drained from her. And not just her energy either as the ring was a hungry artifact. The longer someone spent in the ring's aura, the more of themselves the ring would absorb, gifting it all to the ring's wearer.
But the question was what would the ring start to take from Bonnie and give to Judy? As the ring absorbed... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
