Chapter #10

Stella saw them in the grass and picked them up.

Lincoln and his five little sisters were shrunken to a minuscule size while in their family minivan, driving through the tall grass forest of their front lawn. While they were driving through the yard, Lincoln's friend, Stella, was currently waiting at their front door for someone to answer her. Since Stella was still normal sized, she towered miles above the miniaturized Loud siblings like a skyscraper.

Lincoln drove Vanzilla as fast as he could to get Stella's attention, but it seemed like that was easier said than done. The tall grass was more than three times the height of Vanzilla now, which made it very difficult for Lincoln to easily navigate his way through it. "Come on, Lincoln!" Lola shouted. "Hurry!!! Stella could leave any minute! We've gotta get to her!"

"I'm trying, Lola!" Lincoln replied, but then he made a quick right turn at the last second before almost crashing into a rock. "I'm trying, but it's not easy driving through the yard!" He continued. "I can barely see anything with all of this grass blocking my view, plus there's rocks, garbage, and giant bugs everywhere I look!"

"Not to mention the ground is pretty bumpy." Lana added, much to Lincoln's added stress.

Lincoln turned on the van's headlights hoping they could help them see better. They didn't help them that much, but on the positive side, the lights were bright enough to blind the giant insects blocking their path and force them to move out of the way.

Meanwhile, Stella was still waiting at the front door for Lincoln to open it. Standing there a few minutes, she sighed and grew tired of waiting for him. "Lincoln?" Stella called downcast before ringing the doorbell again. "Is anybody there?" Stella gave another sad sigh as she gave up on waiting all together. "I guess he doesn't want to hang out with me after all."

Stella turned around and began walking away from the front door. The Loud siblings in the grass felt the shaking caused by her footsteps again, and Lana looked out the window to peer above the grass blades. She saw Stella, with a crestfallen expression, walk away from their house and gasped in panic.

"Lincoln, Stella's leaving!" Lana informed him, much to everyone's combined worry. "What do we now? If she goes, we'll never find a way back to normal!"

Lincoln kept driving through the grass trying to find a way. But while he was trying to think of a plan, he saw a spider web up ahead of them and everyone screamed as they saw the terrifying face of the giant spider. Lincoln honked the horn but it didn't seem to affect the spider. He kept honking at it while the headlights were still on, but it only agitated the spider as it shot its web at the front of the van.

Everyone screamed as they thought the giant arachnid had them in its clutches. However, once Lincoln got surprised by the webbing on the windshield, he had a reflex and veered the van away from the spider. Fortunately, they managed to escape it, but now they had another issue to worry about. Lincoln couldn't see through the silk on the windshield and lost control over the van. Add to that and the earth-shattering force of Stella's colossal footsteps, Vanzilla was thrown completely out of whack and Lincoln struggled to regain control of it.

Stella was nearly halfway to the sidewalk and still didn't walk that far from the front door. It seemed like there was no way for Vanzilla to reach her in time. However, once they were a little bit closer to Stella, the impact from her footfalls shock the ground under the minivan, and in turn, caused Vanzilla's car alarm to go off. The van kept honking its horn and Lincoln was too distressed to stop it, as were all of his sisters who were huddled up trying to hold each other in a panic.

The noise coming from Vanzilla was very faint, but luckily, it was just loud enough to reach Stella's ears. "Huh? What was that?" Stella stopped walking and looked around in confusion. "That was weird. For a second, I thought I heard something." she said, rubbing the back of her head.

Looking around again, the young teenage girl didn't see anybody around her. But then, she looked at the grass on her left side and thought she saw something moving in it. Squinting her eyes, Stella bent down to get a closer look and seemed to identify something small rusting and moving around quickly through the grass. She also saw what she thought was a bright light coming from it so she assumed it was just a firefly, but she knew that fireflies don't light up in the daytime.

She was about to let it go and resume walking away from the Loud's home, but then, Stella listened carefully to the thing she saw in the grass. It was still very faint, but she stuck her ear out and listened to the sound of it. "So that's where that sound came from." She deduced before listening more carefully. "It kind of sounds like a...a car? Hmm, that's weird. I wonder what it could be." Stella stood up straight again and followed the light moving in the grass, while making sure to walk carefully to avoid stepping on it.

Lincoln was still trying to regain control of Vanzilla while maneuvering through the rough and bumpy terrain. Once he hit the break hard enough, he managed regain the balance as Vanzilla skidded to a stop. "Okay, girls. We're safe. Everyone...calm down." Lincoln panted.

With a combined sigh of relief, Lola, Lana, Lily, Lisa, and Lucy opened their eyes and calmed down once they knew they were no longer in any danger. "That was...really close." Lily said.

"Yeah, *sigh* I really thought that spider had us for sure." Lucy added. "But, it's a good thing we had you to protect us, Lincoln." She patted Lincoln on the shoulder while in the shotgun seat, which brought a smile to Lincoln's face.

"Yeah, big bro. Even if we don't get Stella to find us, I know we'll be okay." Lana said from the back seat. "After all, we have you to look out for us." Everyone nodded in agreement at Lana's statement.

"You bet girls, now come on. Let's get moving again!" Lincoln turned on the windshield wipers to get the spider silk off. But as soon as it cleared up, everyone was met with another horrible sight. "You have got to be kidding me!" Lincoln shouted in aggravation.

To the shared horror of the six shrunken Loud siblings, the moment the webbing was cleaned off the windshield, they were met face-to-face with a giant praying mantis. "Not another giant bug!" Lola complained. "Can't we get a break after that icky, slimy, scary spider?!"

Lincoln tried to start Vanzilla again, unfortunately, the engine wouldn't start. "Come on, girl! Come on!" Lincoln tried to move, but it was no use. He then saw the mantis get blinded by the headlights and it looked pretty agitated by them.

"What's wrong, Lincoln? Why aren't we moving?!" Lola asked in desperation.

"I'm trying, but it won't start up!" Lincoln replied.

"The van must be damaged from that wipeout. We're stuck!" Lana noted. Everyone screamed as the mantis was coming closer to them. They thought it was going to be the end of them until...

*BOOM* *BOOM* *BOOM*

The ground started shaking again and the mantis stopped in its tracks. "What now?!" Lily asked in fright. The praying mantis felt the shaking too as its antennas twitched, indicating that there was danger approaching.

*STOMP!!!*

Lincoln opened his eyes and saw the praying mantis squashed into oblivion. But then, he looked at what caused it and gaped in shock. There was one last booming stomp, which apparently, came from Stella herself. Lincoln saw the titanic rim of her giant green and white boot as it crushed the mantis and narrowly missed them.

"Girls, we're saved!" Lincoln shouted, his sisters opened their eyes in confusion at his announcement. "We are?!" They all asked at the same time. They gazed at the rim of Stella's massive shoe and then stuck their heads out the windows to look up at her titanic form standing right in front of them.

"Wow. Look at her." Lily said in amazement. Stella towered over them so much that they could barely see her face. Vanzilla was almost as tall as the rim of her boot, which made it look like a little toy car compared to her. "So this is where that light and sound was coming from." Stella deduced.

The shrunken siblings all covered their ears from the powerful volume of her voice. Then, they all gasped and ducked their heads back into the van as they saw Stella bend down and reach out her hand to pick up the car. "Lincoln, she's going to pick us up!" Lola informed.

"Brace yourselves, girls!"

Stella gently pinched Vanzilla between her index finger and thumb and lifted it up off the ground. The Loud siblings held on to each other as they felt like they were being launched into space. Stella stood up straight and held the shrunken car between her fingers. Once she brought it up to her face, the shrunken Louds saw her gigantic face in front of them and took this chance to get her attention. They all started shouting and waving to her from inside the van, hoping she would recognize them.
