Chapter #15Advice from Tehama by: oyvey1 Since it was clear that her ideas were going nowhere, Ingrid decided that she would consult someone who knew Fillmore longer than she did. True, they were best friends, but they were still learning things about each other too. Other members of the Safety Patrol were no doubt more familiar with Fillmore's tendencies. As Fillmore went to get some lunch, Ingrid elected to stay behind and catch up on some paperwork that needed filing.
Or so she claimed.
As soon as Fillmore left, Ingrid walked over to Karen Tehama's desk. The forensics expert of the Safety Patrol was working on a chemical analysis to see if the ink used on a baseball card was real or fake. "Hey Karen?"
"What's up Ingrid? Looking for another lesson in forensics?"
"Not exactly." Ingrid smirked. "Actually, I wanted to talk to you about something else."
"Care to be a little more specific?"
"Well...it's about Fillmore." Ingrid decided to ignore the sudden smirk that appeared on Tehama's face. "In the time that you've known Fillmore, have you ever found anything that gets him a little...flustered?"
"Flustered...interesting choice of words."
Ingrid narrowed her eyes. "Don't get any ideas Tehama." She said warningly. "I'm asking because I've been trying to get Fillmore to show he can't always shrug everything off like a duck shaking water off its back. Something's gotta get to him, no one's invincible!"
"So calm, cool and collected Fillmore is driving you up a wall?" Tehama laughed. "Most of us have tried, all who have, failed."
"Wait, you said most..."
"I never bothered to try to get to him."
"Why not?"
"Because it'd be too easy." Tehama turned back to her work, and grinned when Ingrid grabbed her shoulder and turned her around. "Oh, I guess you wanna know what I'd do."
"Duh."
"It's actually pretty simple. Everyone tries to get to him with the usual stuff. Pranks, weird or gross stories, pretty much anything that's in-bounds."
Ingrid raised an eyebrow. "In-bounds?"
"Well...Anza tried to get a reaction out of Fillmore by needling him about his past. He got a reaction alright, but the reaction was they both got suspended for a week."
"Wow...yeah, I guess bringing out 'Tortured Fillmore' was out of bounds."
"Definitely. But the main point is that everyone goes for conventional or off-limit strategies. That's just not gonna work."
"And what would work?"
"Simple. You aim for where it counts."
Ingrid scratched her head. "Where it...counts?"
"Oh Ingrid, you're so innocent." Tehama shook her head good-naturedly. "Look, Fillmore is a great guy, I'd want no one else to be watching my back, you're lucky to have him as your partner. But no matter how great he is, he's still just that...a guy."
"So?"
"So...as a guy, he's vulnerable to guy-like tendencies, such as staring at things he shouldn't from time to time."
"Such as?"
Tehama snorted. "Girls, Ingrid. Particularly ones that are a bit more...shall we say developed? There aren't exactly an abundance of them in the school, I know you and I don't qualify. So the ones that do? They get a lot of second glances. That also means that if you talk about it with them, either they're going to be uncomfortable about it, or they'll reveal themselves to be lecherous pigs who can't help but perv whenever a bigger chest walks by."
Ingrid, for her part, was blushing a bit herself. The thought never occurred to her to use a strategy like that to get a rise out of Fillmore, but she could understand why Tehama felt it would be effective. "So you want me to..."
"Talk about tits Ingrid. Small ones, big ones, massive ones, whatever." Tehama nodded and went back to her microscope. "I guarantee Fillmore will crack sooner or later." indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
