"Sit down!" Sternly, the girl whispered. "We need to talk!"

I frowned but the boy gripped my arm. "Please, sit with us." Firmly, he demanded. "I am certain you have questions of your own to ask."

Reluctantly, I sat down with my tray placed down in front of me before the jock and cheerleader sat down on either side of me. What concerned me more was the fact that everyone around us seemed to have forgotten the last ten minutes and were eating and talking as if nothing had happened.

"What happened just then?" Shaken, I demanded.

"Were you born in this city?" Serious, the cheerleader demanded.

"My grand parents and parents were." Honestly, I replied. "Mom and dad told me that they fled this city with their parents when they were just kids."

The cheerleader sighed. "So you are a returning third generation." Softly, she said. "That explains a lot."

"So the stories grandma and grandpa told me were real..." Gulping, I said. "Mom and dad told me I would only be living here until I learn to control myself."

The girl nodded. "My name is Vicky Veronica, I am the cheer captain." Calmly, she said. "Your last name will answer a lot of our questions."

"It's Mystique." Honestly, I said.

Another girl grunted. "The Mystique family were all kinetics; they had powerful mental abilities but fled the city shortly after a government agency invaded the city." Flatly, she said. "They feared their children would be taken away for experimentation or worse; they had never returned... until recently."

"This is Eva Davina." Calmly, Vicky said. "She instantly knows the full history of anyone or anything she focuses on."

I shuddered at that, not certain what to think then asked, "Um... so what now?"

"Now, you stay close to us." Serious, the boy replied. "From your reaction to retrieving your purse, I would say this is your first experience."

"Are you going to train me, then?" Wincing, I asked.

"We can, if you want." Calmly, the boy replied. "However, for now, I suggest you just relax and let us look out for you."

With that, they went back to eating their lunch as if nothing happened. "Curious..."
