Chapter #6

A submarine?!

    by: sneakyk Author IconMail Icon
As loath as you are to send your ship headfirst into the watery abyss below, you know for a fact that if you remain on the surface, your ship will have no cover to hide under. Rather than risk getting scooped up by a passing fishing boat's net or subjecting yourself to the curiosity of anything looking to investigate the shape on the surface above, you decide to descend downwards. You bid the light of day farewell and turn your ship downwards, descending into the watery depths below.

As you make your way downward, you pay careful attention to the sonar and to the camera feeds. Thankfully, nothing seems to be headed your way. Although the watery world around you is darker than the world above, daylight still pours in from the surface. You are, after all, still in the euphotic zone, only a few meters below the surface. You eventually make your way to the bottom, but give your ship a little bit of vertical leeway to ensure you don't bump into a Krabby or anything of the like. Beautiful coral formations lie scattered across the ocean floor, as do some rock formations. Yes....this should do. If you need cover, you can just hide among the coral. Your ship is small enough for that.

As you make your way across the seabed, you eventually come to a large structure. Raising your altitude, you find that it appears to be what remains of an over-water highway. Was there some project to connect Cinnabar to the mainland? It would be the only explanation, but you've never heard of such a thing. Judging by its positioning, it could be a land route between Cinnabar and Pallet town, curved to avoid intruding over the shallows of Route 21. Alternatively, it could have been a straight path to Route 27, which would allow land transportation pretty much straight to the league. Whatever this path was for, the coral growing along the surface of the ship suggests that this failed project was abandoned long ago. Perhaps the aquatic Pokemon didn't take too kindly to such an intrusion?

Lost in the mystery of your surroundings, it takes you a moment to realize that your ship's sonar has picked up something big to the north . Turning your attention northward, you make out a large, stationary vessel, clearly artificial in nature. It appears to be a personal submarine, and not one of the tiny-person variety! The submarine is a bright yellow in hue , and possesses a small slit for a front window. A cute little bunny insignia is printed onto the front of the ship. Most notable, however, are the spear-like spikes protruding from the front of the ship, no doubt meant to support ramming attacks. They stand in stark contrast with the Insignia, that's for sure. Whoever designed this ship likely had combat in mind. You feel a chill pass down your spine as you observe the vessel...but you can't jump to conclusions just yet. Maybe its pilot isn't your enemy...

The ship suddenly begins to head your way! As it draws closer, a small compartment opens on the front of the ship, clearly with collection in mind!
