Makoto and Ren spoke in the court yard about her problem, about how, despite her accolades and good will formed with many of the higher ups at the school, she was unable to truly help when she was needed most. The honor student looked to Ren with a reserved passion in her eyes. “Now that I’m a member of this team, I want to do everything I can to help you all. All my studying up to this point has kept me quiet narrow-minded. I think… I-I will need to broaden my horizons somewhat.”
Ren enquirers on how she’ll do that. “My first step will be to learn more about the other students. But… I struggle with that. There seems to be a disparity between my tastes and those of my peers… I don’t even know where people like to go for fun… It would be nice to have a grasp of such concepts.” Seeing where the conversation was going, Ren stopped her there to accept in helping her on her mission. “You will? Thank you very much. You have no idea how much that means to me. So I guess we should start at ‘where do people usually go for fun’?”
Ren thought for a little bit and suggested a trip to the arcade. “The arcade… well yes I have heard of that. I’m not much of a player in video games but I’ll definitely go, if it means I’ll come to a better understanding with my peers.”
The two head to the arcade and try some of the games. Her yelps at taking damage and easily flustered style made it clear to Ren, and all those around them, that Makoto had never played a video game before. When the game was over she put the plastic gun away and sighed deeply. “My goodness that was such an exhilarating experience! I’m almost sad it’s over. Tell me do you have any of these video games at home?” Ren lists off retro games he’s accumulated in his attic. Just the mere sound of the names gave Makoto goose bumps. “That sounds really fun! I’d like to keep playing more, what else do they have here?”
Makoto’s gaming binge would last her 3 hours, only concluding due to her growling stomach. “Oh my, how long have we been going? Perhaps we should eat something before parting ways.” She thought briefly about what to eat before getting an idea. “Perhaps this could be another learning experience. What do normal people eat? I usually cook my own meals or sis takes me out to eat at some nice restaurant, but what would you recommend?”
