The one thing James knew about his father with this - he spared no expense on anything. This included the beds in the Livestocks' rooms. While other human farms just used basic mattresses, Robert gave his livestock the sort of beds that could be found in five-star hotels, if not better. They were also big enough for two, in case one livestock had another over for company, especially for mating.
James had no issues grabbing some night clothes. Robert and Julia simply gave each other a knowing look, and shared a grin, as they heard his footsteps - they'd done the same sort of thing at that age. If they'd worried about getting caught by their parents trying to sneak a livestock past them, simply grab some night clothes, claim to spend the night checking up on a potentially ill livestock, and then, come morning, claim it was just a case of nerves or something that was easily remedied by rest.
Robert heard James's excuse - livestock with stomach pains. He nodded, told James to keep an eye on her - and watched as James left, without asking his father how he knew the gender of the sick livestock.
James eventually got to Autumn's room, and opened the door.
"I was a little worried," she said.
"Oh, I simply told father that one of the livestock was sick with stomach pains," he said, as he drew the mare in for a kiss. "Thankfully, those should be gone by morning."
