Tammy heard someone coming. Moving swiftly, and quietly, she hid behind some nearby bushes. Peering through them, she saw an easily recognizable figure with a walking stick walk to where she'd been digging - John Wrangler - the leader of the livestock.
From what she knew of the man, he was also a Feral, one that had spent almost ten years at the place. He was also something of a friend with the lead werewolf, Robert.
She watched as John knelt down, and felt the dirt.
"You've been digging, haven't you?" he asked.
Tammy kept quiet.
"Not a bad idea," said John. "Might work, but it's been tried before." John stood up. "You're hiding in the bush. Let me save you the trouble - scrape a few more inches, and you'll find concrete. If you're a child, or fairly slim, there's a chance you could slip through, between fence wire and concrete. Most folks though, are not that slim. If you're lucky, you'll be scratched, but the scent of blood is something that werewolves can easily pick up, even after a heavy rain. If you're unlucky, you won't be able to fit through, and might just be able to pretend that nothing happened, and the attempt will be ignored. Really unlucky ones though, they get caught, either because of getting snagged, or being hunted down. If you get caught escaping, your Grade will be reduced by one full letter, and you'll be Marked as an Escape Attempter or Escapee."
He turned to look at the bush. "Also, if you do manage to escape, it's possible that you're putting the lives of others at risk. If you get caught, and are brought back here, standard payment is a livestock of one letter grade lower than the escapee. Said livestock used as payment might be a friend of yours. Likewise, suppose you do manage to get to your herd, only for the Wolfes to track you to them - do you plan to play Decoy to allow your herd the chance to escape, or risk them getting captured as well? I have a mate and a son out beyond these fences - I'd rather that I remain here, and they stay Free." He tapped the side of his head. "Think about it."
John then walked away.
