Max ended up running past a horse track in town and after passing the front gate he transformed into a horse one with a white coat and a golden mane all setup with saddle, ranes, and horse shoes

Max stopped to admire himself as a horse he was much bigger than a dog or a human even but as he looked toward the track he saw more horses he stepped through the slitly opened front gate but accidentally wacked it with his tail closing it and locking him and everyone else inside
