Chapter #1

Escape Plan

by: John Johnny Johnson Author IconMail Icon
Lillian sat patiently in her office, waiting for the last patient of the day. After that, she'd have two days free before returning to the monotony that was life.

Taking a look around, she took it all in one final time. Her single-seater, placed up against the window for people to stare out of when they needed, opposite a much comfier sofa where she, ironically, spent more time sitting so to better use her gifts. The only thing dividing the two was a plain oak table to keep her notes in for repeat clients. It was all so drab and boring.

Noticing the light start to dim, she check her watch to see how much longer she'd need to sit there.

"16:48. Two more minutes, and I can be done with this torture."

Deciding that there were better ways to spend that time than sitting on her butt, she walked to the drinks cabinet, which people found comforting for some reason, and opened it to reveal a full body mirror, some makeup, and everything she'd need to improve her appearance. She starred at the reflection in contemplation. A fairly well build women around 5'5 with brunette hair going just past her shoulders, and C-cup breasts that looked smaller in her black and white uniform that was meant to make her look more professional. (Like there was anything professional about flirting with clients.) The almost dull green eyes were full of pain and trapt wonder, where the only thing she could promise this woman was 'it'll be over soon'.

A buzz filled the room, causing her to shut the cabinet and go to her seat that had a phone added to it.

"Yes, Claire?"

"Your four-fifty is here." The voice made it clear she was only doing her job, and would give nothing else.

"Thank you. This'll be a short one, so could you lock up when she leaves?"

"Sure thing." A small amount of malice made it through. But Lillian didn't care.

After a minute, a woman that was clearly neither healthy nor unhealthy came in. Apart from her build, she could easily be mistaken for Lillian's sister.

"Thanks for doing this, Sarah."

"I'm not doing this for free." She spoke in a faux-indignant tone you'd use with close friends. "You got MY money?"

"You know I do. So, how do we do this?"

She looked around the room, noticing it was small and cramped. But it could still work, if...

"We need to move the table in, about a foot."

It didn't take them long to do so, but Lillian took the opportunity to take an envelope from one of the draws.

Sarah closed her eyes to focused, and were completely black when they opened again. Not the void-black that would make you look away in fear, more like a cosmic-black that you'd love to stare at in wonder. Opening her arms wide, a strange energy moved between they until it formed a circle. She then thrust her arms downwards, throwing the circle onto the floor and creating a portal.

"Alright, so just focus on where you want to go and step in. I can still hear you when you're there, so just scream 'Sarah, I want to leave' when you're done." She held her hand out, waiting for the payment.

"The account number is 577869." Lillian stated, handing over her collection card. "Everything in it is yours."

Sarah was confused at that. Her gift may be expensive, but not 'all your savings' expensive. And then, noticing the envelope on the table with 'RESIGNATION' written right across the whole thing, she began to piece together what was hapoening and looked at her friend like a kicked puppy.

"You're actually doing this, aren't you?"

"I can't live here anymore! There's too many rules, limits, regulations... I just want to live as me. And you're not talking me out of it."

She walked past her almost without a care and nearly stepped through the portal, but got pulled around into a hug.

"I'm going to miss you, you slut!" The quaking of her voice made it evident she was holding back tears.

Lillian returned the hug, using her power to bring her a small moment of happiness before they never saw each other again.

"I'll miss you too, Bugbear." Turning back around, mainly to hide her own tears and making this harder, she focused on where she wanted to go a jumped.
