Princess Amelia was the third daughter of the Queen and as pretty as a Princess should be. She was also unmarried and at an age where princesses would be looking over seas for a northern European prince to marry.

Edmund felt his heart quicken. He had a passing acquaintance with the Princess from previous Balls, but he had not imagined that she would turn up to this one.

"Oh mother - if I could win her hand, I could make the Withenstrops one of the wealthiest families in the Empire."

Lady Withenstrop replied," My thoughts exactly. Now what we have to do is..."
