Chapter #8

Someone confronts Donna about her weight gain

    by: Unknown
"Hmm." Donna grunted, attempting once again to pull up her pants. The black corduroy was bunching under her butt. The stupid things must have shrunk, she thought. With a mighty tug, she finally got them on, though she gave herself a painful wedgie in the process. As she rearranged her underwear, she tugged down her red turtleneck, which kept riding up for some reason. She sat down on her bed, accidentally crushing a half-eaten bag of chips, and slipped on her shoes, which thankfully still fitted fine.

"Donna! Breakfast!"

She got up and hurried downstairs. In the kitchen, her dad Bob was already eating. Her mom Midge kissed her on the cheek and gave her a plate stacked high with pancakes. Donna sat down and quickly loaded her plate with scrambled eggs and bacon. After adding a knob of butter to her pancakes, she doused the whole plate with a liberal serving of maple syrup. Donna's knife and fork moved rapidly and she cut and speared, shovelling bite after bite into her mouth, revelling in the mixture of sweet and salty flavours. By the time her mom sat down, she had already made an impressive dent in the food. She slowed down a little, but still finished well before her mother, using the last fragment of pancake to mop up the leftover grease and syrup.

"Ah." Donna sighed as she let her cutlery clatter on to her plate. "That was great Mom."

Midge smiled, a little surprised at the amount of food her daughter had just packed away. "Don't mention it sweetie."

Donna stood up and let out a small burp. Her bloated stomach now caused her turtleneck to ride up even more, exposing the muffin top that oozed out over the waistband of her pants. "Excuse me." she asked, before going to the fridge and taking out the orange juice. As she took a long draught straight from the carton, Midge shot a look a Bob who nodded gravely.

"Uh, you sure were hungry this morning sweetheart." He said, not sure how to begin.

Donna pursed her lips, looking quizzical. "No, not really."

Bob didn't know how to respond to that, and there was a moment's silence.

"Anyway." Donna continued, placing the OJ back in the fridge, "I'm heading over to Eric's, see you later."

She stopped to kiss both her parents on the cheeks and left through the kitchen door.

"Nice work, Bob!" Midge said, standing up and beginning to clear the plates.

"It's not my fault, it's the Pinciotti metabolism. This happens to everyone in my family around Donna's age." Bob protested, gnawing on a bacon rind.

"Well, I'm not going to let it happen to Donna." Midge said firmly, loading the dishwasher.

Just next door, Donna was entering the Forman's kitchen. Red was reading the paper at the kitchen table, while Kitty was bustling around the kitchen.

"Good morning Mr Forman, Mrs Forman." Donna said politely as she pulled the glass door closed behind her.

"Oh, good morning dear." Kitty replied. Red grunted hello without lowering his paper.

Donna's eyes widened as she smelt fresh baked goods. "Are those muffins?" She asked, pointing to the cooling baking tin.

Kitty was just turning off the oven and removing her apron. "Oh yes, I was going to being them in to the hospital, but please take one-" the words died in her throat as she turned and saw that Donna had already taken two, one of which she had already bitten into.

"Mmm, chocolate chip!" Donna remarked, taking another bite. "They're really good Mrs. Forman."

"Oh, well, thank you dear." Kitty said after a pause, followed by her usual nervous laughter. There were a few seconds of silence, the only sound being Donna chewing, before Kitty spoke again. "Uh, I think Eric is down in the basement dear."

It seemed like Donna was more interested in the muffins, but she nodded, swallowing a large mouthful. "Thanks Mrs. Forman."

Kitty watched her go, her eyes drawn to the tightly straining rear of the young woman's trousers, causing her to let out a quiet "Oh my." She turned Red, but he just turned the page of his newspaper.

"Whatever it is Kitty, I don't want to hear it."

Donna had finished the first muffin in a matter of seconds, and was most of the way through the second by the time she reached the bottom of the basement steps. Hyde, Fez and Kelso were all there, Hyde reading a magazine in the chair nearest the staircase, while Kelso and Fez were sitting on the couch playing Pong.

She murmured a greeting through a mouthful of muffin and wandered behind the back of the couch. "Looks like an epic game. Who's winning?"

"It's a tie right now, but I'm about to make my move." Kelso said confidently.

"In your dreams white boy!" Fez responded.

Donna's attention was distracted by the box of Oreos sitting on the table. She sat down in the one remaining chair and grabbed a handful, popping two into her mouth and chewing furiously. She ate about a dozen before Fez noticed.

"Hey, my cookies!" He yelled, outraged, but was immediately interrupted by Kelso's cry of triumph. As the two started bickering, Donna crunched down the last few cookies. She brushed the crumbs off of her front and stood up again. "Is Eric around?"

Hyde was the first to respond. "He just went out looking for you. Hey, cut it out!"

His elbow had been jostled by the the scrapping pair, and he dropped his magazine. Looking up to aim a pinch at Kelso, he caught his first look at Donna.

"Whoa." His eyes widened behind his ever present sunglasses.

"What?" Donna asked, picking a chocolate chip out of her teeth.

Hyde legitimately didn't know what to say. "Uh... Nothing."

Donna left through the back door, and Hyde sat their stunned for a moment before turning his attention back to the fight.

"Knock it off!"

The scrapping pair separated begrudgingly.

"Did you see Donna just now?" Hyde asked cautiously.

"I saw her eating all my cookies." Fez said angrily. "The red haired witch."

"What about her?" Kelso said, rubbing his head where Fez had hit him.

Once again Hyde didn't know what to say. "Nothing man, forget it."

They went back to what they had been doing, but Hyde found it difficult to concentrate on the article he was reading.

Donna wandered around the Forman house and ended up back in the driveway. Eric must have gone to her house, she decided, unconsciously attempting to pull her sweater down over her belly.

"Donna!?"

Jackie walked up to Donna, a look of total surprise in her face, her mouth hanging open in shock.

"Uh, hi Jackie." Donna replied. "What's up?"

The petite brunette didn't reply, except for a quiet "Oh my gosh.", which she repeated as she circled around Donna and got a look at her backside.

Donna simply looked bemused at her friend's strange behaviour.

"What happened to you?" Jackie said finally, tearing her eyes away from Donna's bulging midriff.

Donna laughed. "What do you mean?"

Jackie hesitated. No woman liked to hear it, but Donna had done it for her when she had started overeating, and so she wanted to return the favour. "Well, you've kind of, um, put on a little weight."

Donna almost laughed again, until she saw the serious look on Jackie's face. "Well, maybe a little," she admitted defensively, "But only a few pounds. Its not a big deal."

Jackie privately reckoned it was more like fifteen pounds, but tried to be gentle. "Maybe, but if you're not careful a few pounds can turn into a few more, and then a few more, and then you get fat."

Donna, perhaps subconsciously aware that her friend was right, lashed out angrily. "You know Jackie, every woman can't be skinny and flat chested like you. Don't be jealous of my figure just because you have a body like a ten year old boy."

Jackie actually took a step back, surprised by the viciousness of Donna's words, but quickly shot back. "Well, well, don't blame me when you blow up like a Thanksgiving Day parade float, you big, fat lumberjack!"

With that Jackie stalked away, leaving Donna standing there in a huff. What was that girl's problem?
It must have been jealousy, there was no way she was getting fat. Was there? The thought lingered uneasily in her mind, until she was thankfully distracted by the arrival of Eric in the Vista Cruiser.

"Hey Donna, I was just out getting some donuts" He said, rolling down the window. The redhead went around and sat in the passenger seat, and Eric handed her the pink box of frosted and creme-filled pastries. As she ate, she told Eric about her fight with Jackie.

"And then she said I was fat, can you believe that?" Donna said, licking some jelly off of her fingers.

"I can't believe she would say that." Eric said carefully, handing his girlfriend another donut.

"I know, right?" Donna said incredulously, her voice muffled as she ate. They sat in silence for a minute or two as Donna finished of the last three donuts, before slinging the empty box into the backseat.

"Ugh, I'm starving, can we go get something to eat?" She said after a moment, reaching up to grab her seatbelt, which she buckled securely over her already bloated potbelly.

Eric smiled as he turned the key in the ignition. "Sure. Fatsoburger?"
