This choice: Cat takes the remote back to Sally, shes got to understand. • Go Back...Chapter #7Shrinking witnesses... by: Unknown Raw guilt continued to squirm in the pit of Cat's stomach. She could still feel the gooey stickiness inside her foot's soft wrinkles where the puny foursome had been squished just a minute ago...
...She imagined herself from the point of view of the girls, screaming in horror as her giant, pinkish sole blocking out the sky before coming down heartlessly on top of them--!!
Cat's heart was beating faster than it ever had before. It wasn't so much she was feeling remorse for the girls. That is, she pitied them, certainly but...they had to have had it coming, all those means things they said to her. Yes, they deserved to suffer, and perish in such an ironic way. Yet, for some reason, she couldn't detach herself. Make herself feel as if she had just smushed a couple bugs, nothing more.
She couldn't shake this awful feeling, that she had just crushed out of four helpless human beings. And the way she just stomped them--! Bringing her heel down with such force that they couldn't possibly hope to---!!
Cat's blood ran cold and she started breathing heavily. Was this what it felt like to have a nervous breakdown? It was becoming clear that no matter how perfect the crime, Cat's own guilty conscience was going to haunt her. "I can't stand this." Cat told herself. "I have to go back to Sally and tell the truth." Cat shivered at the thought of what might happen if Sally got angry. After looking down both sides of the hall, Cat ducked out the door and raced for the exit.
SMACK! Without looking, she ran straight into Billy, a handsome(if somewhat nerdy) boy from her science class. Billy hit the pavement and dropped all of his books.
"Oh! Billy, I'm...I'm so sorry! Let me help you with those books..."
Billy glanced up with anxious eyes and pulled away from her helping hand. "No no, it's okay. I'm fine, really." He seems awfully nervous and in a hurry. Cat stood back up and eyed him suspiciously.
"Um, Billy...where are you off to in such a hurry?"
"Huh??! Oh, I'm going to class. I'm, uh, running late. See ya." He picked up his books and backed away from her nervously. Arching her eyebrow, Cat took a hefty step forward, her flip flop landing in front of Billy with a loud smack.
"Billy," she gravely warned, "I need you to not move. Did you see anything strange, or...unusual just now??"
"I have to go, seriously!" he blurted. "Sorry! Gotta run!" He turned and ran away from her. Gripped by paranoia, Cat stuffed her hand into her back pocket to feel the controller and took off after him.
"Billy, please don't do this!" she pleaded, "Tell me the truth! Stop running!"
"I have to go!" he shouts. "Let me go!!"
"NO!!" Cat pulled out the controller with a wail and fired it at Billy. The familiar hum rang through the hallway, and then a bolt truck Billy in the back as he ran away, "GAAAaaaAAAaaahhh..." and his screams grew smaller he disappeared from sight.
Cat was still running at full-speed and skid to a stop when she realized she might have passed over Billy. She looked all around her feet, searching for a moving speck, until she leaned over and peered between her legs...
Billy was there, running in circles trying to figure out what happened. Just then he stopped in his tracks and peers up...he saw Cat towering over him with her huge legs surrounding him, and after a few seconds his eyes got so wide even Cat could see them from way up. He makes a break for it, but Catherine is already experienced in this and easily cuts him of by turning her heel. Billy, now completely freaked out, started running back and forth trying to get out from under her.
Cat looked up toward the end of the hall--no one here. She lifted one leg and positioned it over Billy...she brought it down--
She missed! Billy suddenly sprinted and barely avoided her flip-flop! Angry, Cat began stomping like crazy, trying to get at him, but she had trouble seeing over herself. Finally, she spotted out of the corner of her eye tiny Billy, scurrying across the floor trying to get under a door! Thinking fat, Cat took a giant step, planted her heel and--
--her sole plummeted toward the ground, right down on pitiful Billy, as her foot flattened. She felt his tiny form get crushed completely under the weight of her flip-flop with a wet, squishy smack, like the sound a grape makes. Catching her breath, she realized all at once that some girls had been talking about Billy earlier...that he had a CRUSH on Cat! That would explain why he looked so nervous!
No! It can't be!, she told herself. He must have seen something, he told her to let him go! She stuffed the controller back in her pcoket and turned up her sole to see--the gooey remnants of what used to by Billy glistening beneath her foot. Now Cat felt even worse. She might have just smushed an innocent boy who knew nothing about the shrinking!
Cat wiped her sandal on the floor and doubled-over with stomach pain. She wrapped her arms around herself. This was all too much...she had to get to Sally fast!
