Aerith Gainsbrough was a very strange child. Everyone in the Sector 5 Slums knew it. They knew it when she came to Midgar. Elmerya had adopted her. The two grew very close to each other. Aerith would spend hours talking--mostly about The Promised Land and the Planet. When Cloud had fell from the sky on that fateful day, Aerith was watering her flowers. Aerith sensed rather than heard Cloud was coming. She didn't know who was he, but she did know that he was about to crash into the chruch! Thinkinh quickly, Aerith had activated her very special materia. The one that belonged to her real mother. Before she knew it, Aerith was growing! Her clothes grew with her as she forced her way through the roof. She then catched the man who was falling from above. Aerith had stopped growing until she was a foot taller than the chruch. She looked down to see the man she had caught. He had blond hair and a very thick sword. The man appeared to have passed out during the fall.
