Chapter #6

Predator/Prey

    by: Small1 Author IconMail Icon
The tiny arachnid would have, before Bryan took the shrinking formula, been no bigger than the scientist's thumbnail.

Now, in comparison to the bug-sized man, the spider was as big as an African lion, and even more terrifying.

The predator, unlike some spiders that just hang out in their webs until something stumbles into their grasp, lived in active lifestyle. With excellent vision, due to four complex pairs of eyes, the jumping spider tracks its prey.

When it spied likely prey scurrying on the tabletop, the spider leaped from the light fixture attached to the ceiling over the kitchen table. Plunging confidently toward that distant surface, the spider had the benefit of being able to attach a cable of silk that it could use later to retract itself back to its hiding place.

Tiny Bryan had covered half the distance over the table toward his shipping crate when he looked toward the ceiling, which his brain kept insisting represented the sky.

To his surprise, he saw something falling toward him. His confused brain interpreted the falling creature as a skydiver.

Then, as the plunging creature continued its descent, Bryan made out more details, including an an oblong body bigger than his shrunken form and eight spindly legs.

"Oh fuck!" Bryan screamed and bolted as fast as he could toward the box.

The spider landed softly on the huge kitchen table, several inches from the tiny man.

The predator had no way of knowing that the prey had been alerted to its approach, but as soon as it felt its eight feet on the solid surface, the arachnid pivoted and focused its eight eyes.

It's excellent vision instantly detected the prey, which was on the move.

Bryan, realizing that he had reduced himself to no more than helpless prey, looked around to locate where the spider had landed.

He saw that the spider had...

You have the following choices:

1. landed several inches behind him

2. landed between him and the box
