The opening of the back door took the enormous exterminator by surprise. Carlos put the bottle down on the kitchen counter and wipe his mouth with the sleeve of his uniform.
"Who are you?" Tommy asked, stepping into the kitchen and closing the door behind him.
Carlos gave the teenager his most winning grin. "Mi hermano," he said in greeting. "I work with Patton Pest Control."
Tommy saw the man's uniform, as well as some of his equipment.
Meanwhile, on the floor, the teenager's shrunken employer gazed up at Tommy with renewed hope. "That's my boy, Tommy," Mr. Smith shouted. "Just tell him to leave. Tell him…"
"Oh, well, that's OK," Tommy said, dashing the tiny man's hope for a quick resolution of the problem of the giant exterminator. "I'm just here to get a package that Mr. Smith asked me to mail for him."
Carlos spied the small package on the table. "Is that it?"
"Yeah, it looks like it," Tommy said, crossing the room and picking up the package in one hand.
Tiny Mr. Smith realized his antidote, the only way to regain his proper size, was about to be removed from his reach. "No! Tommy! It's a mistake! I need that!"
Despite the vulnerability of his situation, the bug-sized man sprinted across the kitchen floor, intent on gaining Tommy's assistance in the urgent task of reversing his fate.
"So, Mr. Smith has a bug problem?" Tommy inquired.
Carlos shook his head. "No, nothing like that. This is just a monthly maintenance visit."
Neither of the titans noticed the little, pale bug that sprinted over the tiles...
