Bryan Smith wanted to kick himself. He had come all this way, endured so much, and at the moment of truth, he had panicked.
"What's wrong with me?" He whined aloud.
He recalled the anticipation that had built as his nephew had methodically torn apart the shipping carton that had transported his shrunken uncle halfway across the country.
Sealing tape made a loud, tearing noise as Zack tore it free from the cardboard flaps as he opened the package.
The sight of his enormous nephew, now some unbelievable titan, was what had prompted the tiny man's untimely failure of nerve.
It has been a costly mistake.
While the tiny uncle cowered in the folds of a gigantic handkerchief, his disappointed nephew tried to make sense of opening up an apparently empty package.
"IS THIS SOME KIND OF JOKE," Zack muttered as he stared into the box. He reached in and pulled out the handkerchief, unwittingly bring along his shrunken uncle, as well as one unexpected passenger.
"BLOODY SHIT! A SPIDER!"
In shock, he recoiled in fright, dropping the handkerchief and the box.
It all happened so incredibly quickly. The shrunken scientist tumbled onto a dirty dorm floor as his nephew raged about the shock of finding a live spider in the box.
"FUCKING HELL!" Zack roared. "WHERE DID IT GO?"
Still stunned, the tiny man looked up to see his nephew's enormous sneaker raised high overhead.
"Zack! No!" He screamed. "Don't step on me!"
At the same time, the tiny man saw the buffalo-sized arachnid scuttling across the floor.
His nephew's shoe stomped down with a resounding thud. As his terrified uncle watched, Zack dragged his sneaker back, grinding the spider against the abrasive carpet.
The titan sighed loudly, wondering aloud why the fuck his uncle would send him a live spider.
He was totally unaware of the bug-sized form cowering on the floor. With sickening clarity Mr. Smith had recognized his peril after his nephew so violently and destructively destroyed the spider.
"Oh my god! He could crush me like a bug!"
Gone were thoughts of a giddy reunion with his huge nephew. Instead, the tiny man ran blindly, intent on finding a hiding place until he could think of a safe way to approach Zack.
