Chapter #8

Sudden Acquaintanceship

    by: Unknown
She found herself looking further up than expected. Past a hefty-looking belly and sizable pair of breasts, Dratina was met with the gentle smile of a Lugia. The same one from earlier, in fact. Dratina turned away. "No, go ahead," she sputtered.

The Lugia giggled. "Thank you, dear." She then circled around the table till she was directly across from Dratina and sat down. Dratina, fighting down her bashfulness, forced herself to look the Lugia in the eye. They were a dark blue, and conveyed the same vague sense of gentleness her smile had. Her short, straight blonde hair hung down to her jawline and framed her chubby face rather nicely. She probably took good care of her appearance. So did her sense of fashion, it seemed. Her violet blouse looked comfortable, if a bit form-fitting.

Realizing she should probably say something, Dratina nodded softly. "Sure," she mumbled, "no problem." She glanced over to the staff. They were only just getting to the center of the patio. How much longer before they got to her table?

         "Are you by yourself?"

Dratina turned back to the Lugia. "Yeah," she said. "Just needed some time away from everything, you know?"

The Lugia nodded, her smile now even softer. "Then it's a good thing you got an invitation."

Dratina snorted. "No kidding." She gestured to the general area around them. "You know anything about this place? I've never heard of it."

The Lugia shook her head. "Neither have I. Maybe it's new?"

"Maybe. We'll have to ask." Dratina checked the staff again. Getting closer, but still a ways off from them. A moment of silence passed between them. She readjusted herself a little. More silence. "Um..."

         "Yes?"

She fidgeted again. "When we got off the bus earlier, you, um..." Instead of picking up on her intent, like she hoped, the Lugia just waited silently. With a sigh, she continued, "Well, maybe I was mistaken, but... Look, what I'm trying to ask is: Were you looking at me?"

The Lugia's answer came almost instantly: "I was." Her smile faltered. "Why? Does that bother you?"

The answer was "yes", but simply saying so struck Dratina as rude. "I was just wondering why, is all," she said quickly.

"Ah." The Lugia looked away. Probably hungry, or even starving. A large woman like her no doubt had quite the appetite. Or maybe her size was a genetic quirk. Dratina wanted to ask, but this also struck her as rude. Then again, so was this woman not answering her question.

"Like, was it just an accident?" Dratina asked.

"Sort of," the Lugia replied, turning back to her. "It's funny, really. I saw all sorts of women on the bus, but I was still surprised to see someone who reminded me of myself."

"You mean me?" Surely Dratina wasn't that fat, was she? Yeah, the difference in height had to be taken into account, but her muffintop couldn't have been as bad as the Lugia's!

"Er, I meant a younger me." The Lugia giggled nervously. There must have been a slight edge in Dratina's voice. Whoops "Sorry, I should have clarified."

"Oh." She shrugged. "Well, I really shouldn't be offended. I mean--" Dratina hefted up her belly "--I'm not exactly svelte here."

The Lugia's smile returned. "I wasn't criticizing you. Honestly, I was about the same size when I was younger."

"Younger?" Dratina's head tilted a bit to the side. How old was this lady?

"Yes, younger," the Lugia said, her smile turning coy. "But don't expect me to tell you my age."

         "Okay, whatever."

"I mean it. Not even a teeny little hint."

Dratina laughed. "Oh well." She leaned back. "So, back to me reminding me of you?"

"Oh, yes! Right then! I was just going to say you reminded me of when I was your size."
