Ryan tried to anticipate the actions of the two sixth-grade boys, but he hadn't quite adjusted to his new insect body.
He tried to use his wings to fly out of the cage when Nathan opened the cage, but Jeremy dropped the new bug into the cage so hurriedly that the transformed teacher was knocked back to the floor of the small plastic cage.
Before he could make a second attempt at freeing himself from the confines of the collection cube, he heard the loud snap of plastic as Nathan secured the lid on the cage.
Moments later, holding the cage in his fingers, Nathan peered inside at the strange winged bug and the eight-legged spider that Jeremy had plucked out of the tall weeds.
"Make them do something," Jeremy said in a bored tone as he stared over the shoulder of his friend at the two multi-legged creatures in the cage.
"How do I do that?" Nathan asked.
"Shake the cage," Jeremy offered.
"No!" Ryan wanted to scream as he looked at the other side of the square prison cube. "Keep that monster away from me!"
