'Do you play?' asks Bennett. He continues, 'We're both on the football team for next year. Even if Adam here looks more like he's on the eating team...'
'Low blow!' smiles Adam, placing one hand on his well-rounded gut.
'Well, no, I'd like to, but I think I'm too big, ' you say, suddenly making up your mind to go along with all those questions you've always gotten about football.
'Nah,' replies Adam, 'you're not any bigger than I am, and I'm a tackle. The coach at Baker likes big guys on the line. Hey, maybe we can workout together! I'm looking for a new workout partner - this guy can't lift as much as I can,' Adam went on, slapping Bennett on the back.
Bennett smiled again, but his real reply was a gentle right hook into Adam's gut.
'No, but I can outrun you,' says Bennett.
'Not if I've already tackled you!' says Adam. 'Bennett here is a running back,' Adam explains to you, 'one of the skinny speedy guys I have to keep away from the quarterback. Of course, once I tackle him, he's not speedy anymore!'
'But you're not supposed to tackle me, fat guy, you're supposed to tackle the other team.'
'And I do. But if you get in my way in practice, I tackle you! So hows about it, Pete,' Adam says, turning to you, 'going to come out for football?'
'Could I workout with you first? I don't think I'm in all that great shape,' you say quietly.
'Sure you are,' replies Adam jovially. 'I was watching you wolf down that pizza - you're in great shape - round! Nothing like a good meal to keep a guy big and healthy. We should get some more pizza - would you, honey?' he says, turning to Stacey and Moisha. 'Pete here looks hungry, don't you think?'
'Sure,' the two girls chorus.
'I like big guys,' Stacey says to you with a wink. 'Be right back.'
