Hi oldmonty Nixie here. I found your work in the "WFTH Poetry Contest - ON HIATUS " ![]() ![]() The title indicates that this is not a singularity. If this is non-fiction, you've been through this experience more than once. I hope you wrote this with a specific character in mind. If not, I'm sad for you. What does the brief description mean? The rhymes fell into place seamlessly, which is pleasing. I noticed you wrote this and never had to edit. I'm envious. Most of my work requires multiple edits. ![]() And left the ring there on the shelf. ![]() Your poem was easily relatable, because of the way you've penned it. I've never experienced these precise feelings, because I'm always the one who walks away. And my partners make it difficult. They don't want to let go. (If my words sound pretentious, that is not what I'm trying to convey.) I've said this before: I have chosen to remain single for the last 15 years. And I don't intend to find another relationship. Men are better off without me. ![]() I've never believed in true and everlasting love, or soulmates. My parents were married for over 60 years, and my mom made my dad's life, (not to mention my siblings) miserable. I'm sure that wasn't her intent. Maybe she was bipolar? Back in the day, society didn't have a specific diagnosis, nor were there any medications to help. Merely from reading about relationships that are posted on the Newsfeed, or a member's bio, many people have remained couples for multiple years, and have been happy. Generally, they do believe in soul mates. The last line echoes what I've related. It is with acceptance that we can move forwards. My hope is that connection with the reader is a joy for you, since I tend to be a blabber-mouth when poems or stories resonate within me.
