Hello, I'm one of the official judges for the following:

*Note1* My review is meant to be honest, encouraging, and respectful in accordance with WDC guidelines.

ABOUT THIS STORY:
A look back at political intrigue at the turn of the 20th Century in China.

WHAT I LIKED:
I liked the different perspectives offered by the different characters. The story was educational and not in a "preachy" way.

INSPIRATION:
The inspiration for this story is a song by Steve Earle called "Revolution Starts Now." The song was written in the early 2000's as he had political concerns over the Bush administration's direction it was taking the country. The song is a call to action emphasizing that democracy requires constant vigilance, active participation, and individual empowerment. Democracy starts at the local level and grows upward. That said, I'm looking for similar elements in the story.

MY THOUGHTS
I thought this story did a nice job incorporating the themes presented in "Revolution Starts Now." The Chinese imperial family is in decline and you have a loyalist faction, the west, and the forces of those in decline. It was a great look at courage, strategy and political intrigue. I also liked how the story presented just "where" was the revolution was coming from.

The story was easy to read. Good use of WDC ML to increase the font. The ending was definitive, but not necessarily what the reader would have hoped for. I highly recommend this story. It's a sharp, concise look at historical events that shaped a nation.

Good luck in the contest.
