Appropriate Ratings
One of the best parts of being a writer here on Writing.Com is that the site doesn't impose any restrictions on the content of written pieces. With one rule: The writing must be labelled with the appropriate rating so that potential readers have a quick and easy way to filter out content that they don't want to see.
For the complete rules, see here: "Content Rating System (CRS)"
One relatively easy rating rule is that E stands for everyone. Technically, a young child should be able to read the story or hear it read to them and it shouldn't be frightening or otherwise need adult intervention.
The ratings increase from then on until we get all the way to XGC: Extra Graphic Content. Stories and poems with this rating can have extreme profanity and explicit descriptions of adult or violent topics.
Why is it important to ensure your writing is accurately rated? Because some members use site filters that automatically take out all GC or XGC content for them. That is their right and every writer should be supportive of that.
To ensure the future of uncensored writing and reading enjoyment, always, always, always choose the appropriate rating for your writing. You will still find plenty of readers who will enjoy your fiction or opinions and interact with you in constructive and creative ways. |

Replies to "Guestbooks"
Dawn Embers wrote: Great newsletter. I've been on the site almost 20 years but don't have a guestbook. I have had others create a forum for me to celebrate my time on WDC that later got sent to me so that I own the item. However, a guestbook is a great idea and I might need to consider that, if I have the port space and item availability. Not sure what I would want to see in others but maybe some way to remind me to check out a writer's home page and not just the individual item of the moment.
