Putting the FUN in fundraiser
Fundraiser can come in a few different forms but I am essentially lazy and will keep it to two basic types: the raffle and the auction.
The biggest piece of advice I have for you is to make it interesting and fun. You are the creative type, right? Of course you are! Come up with a theme that will intrigue people and make them want to throw their GPs at you. Use colors, fonts, and imaging to catch the eye.
The next biggest piece of advice is to keep it simple as possible! The more complex, the more likely people will not take the time to figure it all out and then decide to throw their GP's at you.
Use a message forum so members can post their ticket requests, bids, etc.
Do I seem a little obsessed about having GP's thrown at you? Well, it is the point of running a fundraiser...
Raffles are probably the easiest and simplest of the two fundraisers. People buy "tickets" (virtually) for themselves or other members. You keep track of who holds the tickets, then hold a drawing. Most people use the Virtual Dice that you can find under Writing.Com Tools in the left-hand column. Sometimes there are many smaller drawings, sometimes one big drawing.
The cost of the tickets is usually very low, typically around 1000 GPs for each ticket. People will buy blocks of tickets at a time but it can still be a very affordable option.
Auctions are very popular. It takes a bit more work to recruit people to donate auction packages and coordinate everything, but they can be very successful. If you get really nice auction packages, the bidding could potentially go way up. That is a very nice way to collect a bunch of GPs, but not everyone is will to bid a large sum of GPs, even on an attractive package.
Another option that hits both types of gamblers is to do a combination raffle and auction. This gives people options to choose how to throw their GPs at you. They can spend a modest amount of their precious GP stash, or they can possibly bid a much higher amount. Or both.
Which ever type of fundraiser you do, make sure you get the word out and keep reminding people to stop by. Post multiple times on newsfeed with a link to the fundraiser.
