Nothing more strongly arouses our disgust than cannibalism, yet we make the same impression on Buddhists and vegetarians, for we feed on babies, though not our own.
-Robert Louis Stevenson
Two cannibals were eating a comedian, and one of them turns to the other and asks, 'Does this taste funny to you?
-Nicholas Sparks
Whenever cannibals are on the brink of starvation, Heaven, in its infinite mercy, sends them a fat missionary.
-Oscar Wilde
It is silly to go on pretending that under the skin we are brothers. The truth is more likely that under the skin we are all cannibals, assassins, traitors, liars and hypocrites.
-Henry Miller

Becoming A Cannibal
There have been many versions of 'Moby Dick'. Hollywood can't think of another good book, so they just cannibalize the same script over and over again. Hell, even Patrick Stewart got to play Captain Ahab once. That's another story Hollywood decided to take to the next generation. They have no new ideas. I know, let's put a good-looking, famous actor in there and do it all again. They liked it once, so let's use Chris Hemsworth and change the title to 'In The Heart Of The Sea' and go with that. They're cannibals.
What about Stephen King's 'IT'? A good story, so they cannibalized it and decided to make a movie. They had to do it in two parts because they couldn't explain why the preyed upon children had to grow up. So, part two was done with different actors. Of course, for more money as well. A so-so film, but we can do better if we cannibalize that and do a remake with different actors. Even poor Pennywise got replaced. It's just another example of Hollywood's lack of new ideas.
But we're not through yet, they say. If they liked eating 'IT', they'll love 'Welcome To Derry'. We can make a good book into a prequel, change everything, and steal all their money. This is what happens when Hollywood decides to eat itself: no new ideas, no new meat. Let's just keep eating ourselves. We're Cannibals anyway.
I'm sorry about the rant, but when are these people going to quit eating US? They're cannibals, I tell you.
All I have to say is, "SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!"

DEAD LETTERS
Quick-Quill
I loved this newsletter! The list at the beginning hooked me right away. It also gave me pause to think, "How did these lines become so memorable?" Was it the context in the movie/book, or the words themselves? I envy the writers who came up with these lines we all recite and are recognized for the reference. An insurance company has an ad with ALL the recognizable cliché themes for horror/slasher movies. I laugh each time it comes on. Again, this newsletter hit the mark.
Ichabod Crane
I enjoyed your Newsletter. There is still much we can learn from the old Masters. Thank you for including two of my stories, 'Retribution' and 'The Suit'.
