“Falling in love was the easy part. Planning a wedding? Yikes!” – Niecy Nash
Weddings come in all different shapes and sizes. Some people keep it easy and just get married in front of a judge. For some the location is important – romantic venues include on the beach, in a vineyard, or an ancient European castle. But, whatever the wedding, there’s usually one thing that’s never forgotten – flowers - or a bouquet for the bride. Flowers say it with scent when words just won’t do. Some people grab a simple bouquet from Costco, some hire a florist to get the flowers just right.
Today, I thought I’d discuss what flowers might make that bouquet extra special.
Here’s a little something about roses:

Every couple wants to get the flowers right at the wedding, and you can’t really go wrong with what you put together, but assembling a centerpiece or a bouquet might depend on a couple of things – for example, the time of year, the flowers that are seasonably available, or if you want to mix and match or even keep it simple with 2 or 3 florals.
Roses
Garden roses are considered fuller and fluffier than your typical roses. They tend to be a tad more pastel in color and are full of scent. They really help to fill out a bouquet and they have a sweet, romantic scent.
Peonies
These tend to be a bouquet favorite. There’s a lot of symbolism behind them, such as good fortune and may you have a happy relationship. They also offer a variety of color for your bouquet.
Carnations
This flower is known for wide blooms and come in lots in colors. They represent playfulness, true love and affection.
Orchids
These blossoms really have an understated elegance to them and represent love, charm, and strength. Orchids can stand alone (much like roses), but tend to make very decorative centerpieces.
Gardenias
These flowers tend to be smaller and the petals are star shaped, making them a blossom to add texture to your bouquet, especially if you have fuller flowers like roses and carnations. They symbolize hope, purity and love.
Hydrangeas
These are dainty little flowers which add texture and fullness to a bouquet or centerpiece. Classic and elegant, these flowers say it in style.
Knowing a little about these flowers can help your fictional bride and her bridesmaids pick out a really nice arrangement. Most of these flowers have a light, sweet scent that brings out warm, heartfelt emotion and really help to capture the sentimentality of the day. There are more flowers you can mix and match, but these are some of the more popular ones that help to make the wedding extra special.

Feedback from my Romance/Love Newsletter dated: 14 MAY 2025:
There was no feedback from my last newsletter.
From My Newsfeed:
The question was: Question for you: Did you have a bouquet for your wedding day? Did you grab a bouquet from Costco or did you and your bridesmaid work on the flower arrangements? Was there a special flower you had to have in your bouquet?
Princess Megan Rose Red roses and pink carnations. They were real. I ordered them from the flower shop. I got a artificial bouquet of red roses and pink carnations to throw. I love red roses but I thought pink carnations were a good contrast. They looked pretty. I did my own flowers and choosing.
Kit I had a bouquet arranged for me by one of my husband's friends, and a potted succulent picked up on the way to the wedding by one of my friends, because we happened to pass a market. A little unusual, perhaps, but years later I still have that succulent, and it's thriving. I see that as a good sign.
The people officiating the wedding were somewhat baffled, though.
Kit If you treat a succulent with love, they will last you a lifetime! Princess Megan Rose I love your bouquet. It embodies romance for me!
S 🤦 My mother made my ex's bouquet out if native flowers in her garden. My ex wanted something Australian, and mum provided it.
My ex's cousin caught it, and, so I understand, dried it and still has it.
Lazy Writer est 4/24/2008 I had a bouquet from the florist..after 54 years I dont remember what the flowers were. I had blue carnations tobgive to mothers and grandmother's. My best friend and bridesmaid caught the bouquet. She kept it in the fridge and something spilled on it and ruined it.
S 🤦 and Lazy Writer est 4/24/2008 How amazing is that that your bouquets stood the test of time...until they didn't. Amazing how bouquets are something that one of those little somethings that we treasure from our weddings.
