About This Newsletter

for newsletters

Hello! Welcome to the Contests & Activities Newsletter! I am 🐕GeminiGem🎁 Author Icon, one of the regular editors of this newsletter.

Letter from the editor

A

t long last, I am retired. Woo hoo! I am still in the acute retirement adjustment period, but I have been so busy enjoying the freedom from the restraints of a full-time job that I nearly forgot I have other adulting to do.

Like this newsletter. Oops. *Blush* Let's get to it, then.

You may have noticed that there are a variety of writing contests, activities, and challenges on Writing.Com. Why so many categories? I will offer my thoughts on this, and hopefully it will be as clear as mud.

Contests: These are competitions with prizes. A judge or judges will compare the entries and decide on the winners.

Activities: You write, and usually (but not always), there are prizes/rewards. Nothing is judged, no entries are winners or losers.

Challenges: You write repeatedly over a predetermined period of time, and there are usually prizes/rewards. You may have to sign up and commit yourself to the challenge.

Which should you choose and why?

If you have a competitive streak and you like accolades (who doesn't?), a CONTEST might be the way to go. There are also lots of contests to choose from, around 30 to 50 contests actively running in any given month.

If you want motivation to write without putting your muse's ego on the line, a writing ACTIVITY is a great choice.

If you prefer ongoing writing motivation, a CHALLENGE may be just the thing.

Here is where you can find all these writing contests, activities, and challenges.
