A Quarter Century
Writing.Com was founded twenty-five years ago. That makes this site older than almost all websites designed to bring people together virtually. I will not list them here, but I bet you 1000 Gift Points that you can't name a social media site that was founded before 2000 and is still around without running a search. If you know the name of a site that feels old to you, go ahead and look it up. It wasn't open in 2000. I use the term "social" media in the real sense, meaning, a page where people can be social about some shared interest. In our case here, it's writing.
Like every year, the first week of September will be dedicated to a site-wide celebration. The owners will offer games, incentives, treats, and special prizes to all who want to play along. Most member-run activities and contests stay open for the whole month of September, giving everyone a chance to mingle and become friends.
Any moment now, you will see a little party icon, usually a balloon pop up in the left sidebar with a direct link to the party page. "Writing.Com Party Central 2025!"
It really doesn't matter whether you joined yesterday or all the way back in 2000. This party is for you. Make sure to visit the page daily for announcements and news in the week of September 1 through September 7.
While the page will be brimming with contests and activities that are special for the birthday bash, don't miss out on the many things that are listed on "Activities @ Writing.Com" and "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com" . Be sure to check out the Newsfeed too for pop up events offered to anyone on the site.
The most important thing to remember is: You Are Cordially Invited. No matter how long or how short you have been a member here. This is your party. You must come. I insist.
