Discussing the act of writing, my advice and a general suggestion that may be the most obvious considering the title of where we are doing all of this stuff, including the purpose of these newsletters in general. |

Just Write.
*mc drop*
Walking away... . .
Kidding. Umm December fools or something like that for end of November. I have been spending this whole month writing novels. I finished one after 6 days and will be finishing the second, longer novel today. That is a lot of writing in one month. Over 120,000 words but it isn't a record for me. The most that I've ever done is 160,000 words in a month, also November. So, I do have a little experience with this task and the sort of purpose of the site called writing dot com.
The ironic part is when I say that I moderate a writing web site to people out in the real world, most of them are surprised to find out that the side is actually called "writing.com" and never heard of it before. Yet it makes total sense to call it writing dot com and for us to be here with the goal of writing. These newsletters themselves are all about the topic of writing, reading and everything related.
And it is true that not everyone ends up on the site as a writer. There are different activities people can do and you might be here to support the activity but not want to take part in the creation of fiction or nonfiction, poetry or anything of that nature.
But, let's just say that you are here with an interest in writing. Just to go with the topic and general purpose behind the newsletters. Well, there is one main piece of advice that comes up when someone says that they want to be a writer or that they want to write a novel (poem/etc). And it is quite simple and the maybe annoying way that I started this newsletter. Yes. My main piece of advice for anyone that talks to me about wanting to write is in fact... write. Doesn't matter who it is and I even told my sister's fiancé that they should start writing. November is the great month for the task because a challenge was set up with people all getting together with the focus of getting a novel length first draft done. It can be terrible. It will be terrible. But that's okay. The point is to write something to get the ball rolling and later, when you are more confident, you will be able to fix things and write even better.
Yes. You can probably guess the end of this newsletter but I'm going to do it with an image that was gifted to me by a wonderful WDC friend.
Note: The gnomes are a reference to the fantasy newsletter for this week.

Are you going to write?
Last time, for this newsletter I talked a lot about NaNoWriMo and the change to juste novel writing month but that I was still going to be writing a novel and such. Here was the comment sent for the newsletter:
Comment by Quick-Quill :
My first NANO (I finished), then became my first published novel. I have completed a few since, but none flowed as easily as that first one. I have considered attempting this year. Considered, but not committed.
- That is great! Congratulations on the success and hope that you continue to do well and enjoy the creation process.
