About This Newsletter

"Anytime you write something, you go through so many phases. You go through the 'I'm a Fraud' phase. You go through the 'I'll Never Finish' phase. And every once in a while you think, 'What if I actually have created what I set out to create, and it's received as such?'" ~ Lin-Manuel Miranda

Letter from the editor

What's Your Endgame?

As I ask all of you this question, I am asking myself what I attempted and what I completed this year. One of my goals was to enter into every official site contest.

Those would be "Dear Me: Official WDC ContestOpen in new Window. "Short Shots: Official WDC ContestOpen in new Window. "Rhythms & Writing: Official WDC ContestOpen in new Window. "Journey Through Genres: Official ContestOpen in new Window. "Quotation Inspiration: Official ContestOpen in new Window. "What a Character! : Official WDC ContestOpen in new Window..

I did not write for all of them. But I wrote for more of those than in years past. And I still have a good bit of December left to get an entry together before the year is up.

Another goal I set myself was to finish "October Novel Prep ChallengeOpen in new Window. (I did) and then also write 50,000 words in November. (I did not).

To be honest, I know that I could have done more, but I didn't. I can wallow in self-pity or I can keep writing. I choose writing, reviewing, blogging, reading, and even watching movies and TV shows to immerse myself in fiction and storytelling. There are many places where a word, a sentence, or a plot point will catch my attention and get me to start thinking of something similar for the stories that I want to write.

If there is any writing project that you have left lingering this year, don't feel overwhelmed. Take a look at it. A real, hard look. Did you do anything at all? That's great. Less than zero is better than none. Going through the end of the month and looking forward to next year, set yourself up to succeed, but push yourself too. Aim for more than you think you can accomplish. Chances are, you will end up with more than you thought possible.

Define your own process and then go for it. Keep at it. If you're tired, take a nap. If you're thirsty, drink some water. Whatever you do, come back to your stories and poems. They need you.

How much can you cram into these last weeks to end 2025 like a literal celebration?
