January is only a few days old. The year is wide open with all its possibilities and temptations. New contests and activities, along with those returning over and over are all ready to receive the fruits of your creative endeavors. This is the perfect time to poke around the site, and to find groups and activities to join.
There are a handful of them listed below, but you will be able to find many more by scrolling on the Newsfeed and by checking out the different Plug Pages. Many contests are hosted on forum pages. That means you can also find them by searching the Forum Type listings. You can find that from the left sidebar under: Browse By Type.
Some forum pages are sponsored and they will show up even if they aren't any longer actively hosted. But for the most part, you can assume that a contest that comes up on the first one or two pages on the Forum Type listings is active. Just click and check out when the page was last updated. Is there an opening post? Yes? Bingo! You found an open contest or activity you want to join.
Writing for contests is a great way to get you going if you're stuck. Many have a story within that wants to come out, but it's hard to get started. Contest prompts can help with the creation of ideas and concepts for the broader world you're working on.
Always make sure to read all of the rules for a contest or activity. They are there to create an even playing field for everyone and they apply to you and me and everyone.
Happy writing in 2026.

Dawn Emberswrote: I am hoping to cram in many reviews this month since I got distracted with novel prep and writing around October/November.
Ichabod Cranewrote: I like that goal to enter all the Official Contests. I believe that will be one of mine for 2026.
