Letter from the editor

Power Hugs

I often notice the word "hugs" appearing at the end of certain words, especially before they conclude with a letter. This gives me a comforting feeling. I frequently come across the word "hugs" also in the closing part of letters written by the Apostle Paul. He often ends his messages with meaningful greetings that include the word "hugs."

I researched the meaning of hugs online and found the definition in the dictionary.

A hug is the act of squeezing someone tightly in one's arms, typically to express affection, comfort, or sincerity, especially when the person being hugged is feeling down or depressed.

So, there is always a mystery that makes hugs to be this way?

Although hugs are simple gestures, they can have a significant impact on our physical well-being. A hug represents trust, affection, and a sense of comfort and belonging. It creates an impression of sympathy, reminding us that there are people who can provide comfort during difficult times, especially when we are feeling down or experiencing low levels of oxytocin. Hugs can also be a wonderful element to incorporate into our romantic storytelling.

According to www.meaganbebenecfpundation.org Here are the various benefits of a hugs.

*Tackr* 1. Good for our emotional and mental well being- Physical contact is beneficial for our emotional and mental well-being. According to science, it increases oxytocin, known as the "love chemical," which helps build trust and relationships.

*Tackr* 2. Reduce our stress and anxiety-this can be accomplished through physical touch, such as hugs. Research suggests that hugging disrupts the functioning of the hypothalamus and decreases the production of hormones like cortisol. This can slow down the heart rate, promoting feelings of calm and serenity. For example, when my little girl is angry, I simply, hug her, and it helps to calm her down, and vice versa, when I am worried and feeling down, my little girl just says, 'You need my power hug mommy!

*Tackr* 3. Enhancing emotional connection is essential. Even when we can't communicate verbally, a simple hug can convey our feelings non-verbally in ways that words sometimes cannot express. A hug always leaves an impact on the person we embrace.

*Tackr* 4. Strengthening the immune system. Studies show that hugs can increase serotonin by reducing stress hormones, which is beneficial to our immune system.

*Tackr* 5. For boosting self-esteem. A hug from someone can significantly enhance our self-esteem because it gives us the impression that there is someone who believes in us.

*Tackr* 6. Hugs can relieve physical pain by enhancing the release of endorphins, acting as our natural pain reliever.

It's wonderful that even though we can't see each other in person here in WDC, we can still send virtual hugs to all the members, especially to our friends and those we consider family, even if it's just online, especially now that the weather is so cold and depressing.

Hugs are a form of human touch that fulfill a physiological need. According to the Bible, humans are interconnected, as we are all parts of a greater whole.(1 Corinthians 12:12-27)

So, here are my power hugs for everyone! *Hug*
