Welcome to this edition of the Noticing Newbies newsletter, where I am a guest editor for this issue. Today, we're going to take a short walk through an important area of Writing.com called Guests, Members & Memberships. If you haven't peeked at it yet, that's okay. We're going to walk you on a brief and succinct walk through it together today.
So, without further chatter, let's move onto this important topic.
1. Register For Your Free Account
If you’re reading this newsletter, chances are you’ve already done this step — so congratulations! You’ve crossed the threshold and officially joined a community full of creativity, kindness, and more writing prompts than you’ll ever finish in one lifetime.
But here’s the thing: this section is still worth reading. It explains what your free account includes, how to manage it, and what tools you have access to right away. Even seasoned members sometimes forget how much is available at the free level.
🌟 2. Free and Paid Membership Benefits
This is the part where many Newbies pause and wonder, “Do I need a paid membership?” The short answer: No — but it can be helpful depending on your goals.
Inside this section, you’ll find:
a. Compare Free and Paid Membership Benefits
This comparison chart is incredibly useful. It lays out exactly what each membership level offers — from storage space to portfolio features to review tools. It’s not about pressure; it’s about clarity. You get to see what fits your writing journey.
c. Increase Your Paid Membership Level
If you ever decide to upgrade, this explains how. No mystery, no confusion — just straightforward steps.
d. When Your Paid Membership Expires
Life happens. Budgets change. This section tells you what to expect if your membership lapses and how your account adjusts. Spoiler: you don’t lose your writing.
e. RAOK (Random Acts of Kindness) Group
This is one of the sweetest corners of Writing.com. . Members gift upgrades, items, and encouragement simply because they want to brighten someone’s day. It’s community generosity at its finest, and it’s worth exploring even if you’re shy. You never know when kindness might find you.
🌟 3. New Members — Our Newbies
This section is all about YOU. It highlights the newest arrivals, celebrates your presence, and helps you feel seen. It’s a great place to meet other beginners who are learning the ropes right alongside you. Think of it as the “first‑day‑of-school buddy system.”
🌟 4. Authorized Secondary Accounts (ASA)
If you ever want a second account — maybe one for poetry and one for fiction, or one for personal journaling and one for contests — this section explains how to do it the right way. Writing.com allows secondary accounts, but they must be authorized to keep the community fair and transparent.
📚 Recommended Reading: Why This Section Matters
As a Newbie, it’s tempting to jump straight into writing, reviewing, and exploring — and you absolutely should! But taking a little time to read through the Guests, Members & Memberships area will make your journey smoother.
You’ll understand:
What tools you have
How to grow your account
How memberships work
Where to find help
How to connect with others
What opportunities are available
Knowledge is power, but on Writing.com, it’s also comfort. The more you know, the more confident you’ll feel navigating the site.
So take a few minutes this week to explore this section. Think of it as unpacking your suitcase after moving into a cozy new home — you’ll feel settled in no time.
Welcome again, Newbies. You’re part of something wonderful now.
