Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality.

Ghost stories are far from overused apparently. Let's face it, most people enjoy a good and basic story about ghosts. It might be a cliche but hardly a bore. However, as a writer, it's not recommended to write a similar thing over and over even if the surroundings and the narrative changes. You have to have fresh ideas, different perspectives, compelling characters.
To many, writing comes naturally. Ideas flow without the need to sit for hours staring at a blank screen. Those types of people just sit down and write. But what about the rest of us? Those who sometimes get writer's block? Where the white screen just stares back at us and mocks us? That in itself feels like a horror story waiting to be told, if you could just come up with it, right?
So what are some options to keep the inspiration going on the days, sometimes even months, when inspiration is nowhere to be found?
If you can write a word, then surely, you can write a sentence. If you can write a sentence, then it's possible to write a small paragraph, but about what?!
If you're unsure, then start by simply writing your own phobias down. Then the ones from the people you know. Create a journal of small ideas using your surroundings. Are you aiming to write psychological, supernatural, or body horror? It's remarkable how so many little things in your house can be turned into a horror story. Especially when it comes to electronics! Remember Poltergeist? It anyone?
Did you know that the little girl who played in Poltergeist died at the age of twelve? An amazing actress taken at such an early age. I wonder... But, no. It's just life and life can be cruel in its own way.
Sometimes, if you sit in silence and let your mind slowly drift, ideas come a lot easier than trying to force them. Not all of them are ready to be told. There are those who sit silently in the back of our minds, because they're not ready to be told, but even their time will come.
Why not try it? Sit, doodle, scribble, and see where it leads you.
'Til next time!
