Life in the old money pit does get challenging. Especially when you are trying to upgrade a little.
Hello folks! Welcome to another edition of the Comedy Newsletter. I know I tend to rant about renovating the inside of my 1840 home. But, trying to get some service company that deals with this stuff, to come in person has been ridiculous!
The old oil tank needs to be removed. I no longer use heating oil. I've had a mini-split system installed. It works great because I get my house winterized when I go to Florida. The plumber drains pipes and adds antifreeze or whatever it is that's pumped into the toilet and water pipes to keep them from freezing while I'm away. My son is there to turn off the power on his way out.
This works well because I'm not here to use any internet, or Cable TV service, so they go on hiatus. Of course there is no such thing as a zero owed bill from the power company; they just send the monthly carrying charges of all the alternative exploration, solar stuff that I don't want, or use but still have to pay for. At times, most of the bill is taxes and service charges not electricity use.
Back to the oil tank. After checking a couple companies online to ask if they could come out and give me the estimate and do the job I'm willing to pay for. I figured I'd set up an appointment at a convenient time and they'd get the job done. You know, like it used to be in the "old days. "They send this link before with a questionnaire that requires me to physically go to the basement and measure and check levels and find the closest outlet ...etc, etc!
Well, first of all, since both hips were replaced I don't traverse the narrow steps to the basement where the cobwebs dangle, and who knows what will run over my feet while moving toward the beastly tank with measuring tape in hand. (Fine, I won't be the one going down the steps to the deep depths of beastly tanks and burners...my techy-son would do that. ) But that's not what should have to be done. I hire professionals to do that. I don't mind paying for a service call where the tech does this stuff, gives me an estimate, and we set up a day to complete the job. Do your job!
So, that was two companies that take the lazy way out. I continue to look at a company that's willing to show up, meet them in person, that's not unreasonable. Have them do all this prep work, before signing the contract. I'll pay for the service call if I don't hire them. At least I'll have an inkling of what it involves cost-wise.
But no! It's AI interview about my system first. Then some tech sits there at a desk and reads the measurements while munching on Cheetos, and pondering for a few days how high to pad the bill after me doing part of their job.
So, I'm back to researching, seeking out, and, resisting AI questionnaires. Or, any company that requires me to do their work for them before showing up.
Wish me luck!
That's all the diesel draining drudgery she wrote for this edition of the Comedy Newsletter!
Until next time--Laugh hard, laugh often!

Aw... all that! I need to see a pic of Frances! It's never easy "passing the torch." ((hugs))
At least I know she has a good home! I'll have to dig up a photo of her for you to see. She's practically a fossil!
