As a dyslexic writer, I understand how scary it can be to put yourself out there for others to read your work. But, it is something every writer needs to do. Whether your submitting to a publisher or posting here for the WDC world to see, you have to get over it eventually or die forever in obscurity with your children wondering why Momma/Daddy never did anything with their work.
The purpose of my newsletter is to entertain a bit, if I can, but it is also to help you look at writing ideas as a new member you might not have thought of. To address issues every writer faces at some point in time so you know your not alone. On occasion, I will throw in a WDC technical issue on how to find your way around here or the ML. What I won't do is give you something that bores me. Yes, I know there will be spelling mistakes. I won't use every their, there or they're correctly. I may spell collage when I mean college. But, what you will get are real answers to problems I have conquered and some I'm still struggling just like some of you.
My one and only goal is to help our new members feel like the belong, because you do. Different ideas are welcome. Different styles are welcome and yes even if you have in the past spelled cat K A T out loud and thought you were right or struggle to let characters lead and the plot follow, you have a place here on WDC. None of us are prefect. We all struggle and we are all here to help each other in that struggle.
Friends have jokingly suggested that I drank the WDC kool-aide. I will happily agree. I did and I am so glad I did. Here is to all of our new members finding their writing home with us as well.
Quick note: I lost my editor, He's moved three hours away and has very little internet access, all for the love of a girl. So please bear (or is it bare) with me there will be mistakes. I'm doing the best I can.

I am writing this newsletter at the request of a new member who is struggling to understand ML. I get it. I really do. ML is one of the hardest parts of adapting to WDC. Fortunately, we all get use to it eventually and there are plenty of tips, tricks and even one might say cheats thanks to The StoryMaster  and The StoryMistress  , and that is where this newsletter will begin:
Tips
If you are reading this in your inbox then take a second and scroll down to where you would reply if you wanted to reply to me directly. Take a look at what is written there. You will see {suser:storymaster} and {suser:storymistress}. This is one of several ways you can link someone in an item, email, or notebook post. You can also drop the s and just use {user:******}
That is my main tip to new members asking me how I learned ML. I spent a lot of time reading over emails not at the top where the email is seen with all the bells and whistles of ML in place but at the bottom in the response box. It allowed me to mimick what others had sent to me that I needed to put in my reply. I would also open up to email pages so that I could look at one that had the ML I needed while typing my email, story, or forum post into the other.
My other tip is to remember that everything you wish to link to comes with a number. How you link it depends on what kind of thing it is. Images, forum posts, newsletters and notebook posts have different types of linking than say a story you wrote. If you wish to connect to a story you wrote there are several ways but the most common would be {item:*****} or {bitem:******} You can once again scroll down to the bottom of the reply box and see where I linked in some items from our newest members. the stars represent the number of the item you wish to link to.
Those are the things you will use the most and need to know pretty much as soon as you start wanting to talk to people or share your work with them.
Tricks:
A lot of ML is set to make your work pretty. It adjusts the size of your font, the kind of font you use, the colors you want, indention of paragraphs, you know your basic page development stuff. You don't have to remember any of that because we have a handy dandy tool bar at the top of every email we send, every item we write. If you scroll down again you will see it above the respond box. Itt even has a smile face where you can find out all you need to know to do  or  or  you get the idea. There are so many emoticons you can use. 1181 to be exact.
Cheats
Okay now for the cheats. Next to the smile face button is a question mark. If you click it it will open up a small box where you can scroll through to find out every form of ML we use on this website and how to use it. Can't figure out how to use a footnote? Its in there. Want to embed the awardicon someone gave your item into the item itself and thank them? Well, you can find how to embed it by clicking on the question mark and I just taught you how to link to someones account so that is pretty much everything you need.
One last Hint.
Okay so I saved this one last hint for the end. It was too important to put with the rest and risk you missing it. When linking to someone it is important to know the difference between their username and their handle. Their username is what you want to link too. Their handle is what you see when put in their link. Not everyone uses the same username and handle. I will use my own daughter as an example. Song Bird  as you can see her handle says Song Bird but if you look at the ML {suser:fufhff4} you see you email her by typing into the ml fufhff4
This allows for us to change our handle as we like to advertise events or items, or morn the loss of someone we cared about without people getting confused on how to contact us.
