A small boy longs to be his father's favorite and for the hugs his brother always gets |
| The brothers sat and watched the screen One was small and fair The other dark and tall Their father came in laughing Both boys ran to him The taller one got a hug And the father pulled him to his lap The small one climbed up To sit by them and smiled Oh he wanted a hug like that Their mother called them to the table Their sisters were there already The youngest in her high chair And the other girl in her spot The fair boy looked at his seat Then grabbed a phone book Set in his seat he climbed up Father picked the dark one up And set him in his chair The fair boy looked around This is his family But he doesn't belong He dutifully eats his meal Then to bed he goes He finds his true friends on his bookshelf And picks them up for another adventure Lights out and he falls asleep To dream of a father's hug |
