Just Be Yourself

What does mean to "just be yourself"

Maybe I'll start a new hobby.
Maybe I'll get a new friend.
I just want to be happy
though 'just being me' isn't enough.

When it comes down to it,
I don't know who I am.
I am only who I have been,
and I have been only what I have been taught.

My hobbies and my friends are who I am.
I was taught to like cheerios.
I was taught to like basketball.
I was taught to like things that I have been exposed to.

Must I repeat only my past
To know myself?
To be happy?
I refuse.

I will find my happiness
through that which I am not, yet.
I won't 'be myself'
but will explore that which I can be.
