An Epiphany on the Pacific Coast

The memories merge
into a colored collage
of family vacations.

Vacations
scattered across decades of beaches
from Oklahoma to the Pacific Coast.

One beach stands out from the rest,
the sand was fire
and the water ...
salt cold,
the epiphany struck
like the waves against my body.

My brothers,
my sister,
and I
were walking separate paths
into the ocean of life.
